Slain yachters called 'brave adventurers'
CNN.com ^ | February 22, 2011 | Mike Pearson

(CNN) -- Phyllis Macay wrote of her travels around the world with the breathlessly joyous and staccato style of a teenager.

"I can say that I want to spend a week here ... month here ... maybe a year," she once wrote of visiting Corsica. "It is exciting, vastly busy ... and beautiful at the same time."

That sort of infectious love of adventure, of sailing, of seeing the world was a defining characteristic not only of Macay, but also her companion Bob Riggle and friends Jean and Scott Adam, friends and family say.

All four died early Tuesday off the coast of Somalia at the hands of pirates who had hijacked the Adams' yacht, the Quest.

Ever wonder what the Russian version of the PHALANX CIWS would do to a skiff crowded with Somali pirates?

After some vodka, these sailors found out....loudly:

Oh, bah. Silly, self-indulgent "bragabonds" who put more than themselves at risk.

This is just another manifestation of reckless narcissism.

A pleasure cruise off the coast of Somalia, to distribute Bibles to bloodthirsty Muslims? Oh, maybe they brought Bibles. But this was about bragging rights.

Notice the Muslim sucking media never refers to them as “Christians”, only that they “distributed Bibles”.

They were exterminated by Muslims because they were Christians. Period.

I feel sorry for them. No one should have to die like that, being executed by savages. But, being rich and stupid is not the free pass in the rest of the world that it is in the US.

“Slain yachters called ‘brave adventurers’”

I’m sure their deaths pleases the Kenyan Mau-Mau traitor infesting the Whitehouse.

As for you secret service scum protecting this piece of commie garbage, the law of Karma is eternal.

???? brave..... no .... but naive and fool hardy come to mind.

What about the Navy personnel whose lives were and are, at risk, because these folks made a decision to sail this course?

I feel for the senseless killings of these fine people... supposedly they were on a religious mission...

However - Anyone who sails within a 1000 miles of Somalia is foolhardy ... Just don’t do that kind of thing...

I wouldn’t drive at night on the bad sides of Dallas, Texas USA... I would be risking my life as in any big metropolitan area ... It would be just damned crazy to push the odds like that...

And - there is NO PLACE in America as violent as sailing off the coast of Somalia -— GOOD GRIEF how could someone be that vacant of mind... Somali pirates are Islamic nuts after all... not only that they are bloodthirsty money hungry pirates ...

Instead of sailing off the Somalia Coast one should just save time and play Russian Roulette - with all six chambers loaded in a revolver.

Get a GRIP RICH PEOPLE - sail somewhere else for Heavens Sake... Save people for Christ somewhere else...

Good God Almighty the dumbness of some...

I am surprised only in that I figured the Pirates would have at least tried to get a $Mill or $Two ransom out of them before creating shark bait out of them. Now all the Pirates got is this crappy boat and a couple of bible-thumping t-shirts. I think I heard elsewhere that the US Military was trying to make some rescue attempt when things went so horribly bad for these folks. I am guessing we’ll hear all about it soon. (NOT) I admire their ‘quest’ for adventure. They certainly got a boat load of that. But for them to either not understand or to ignore the extreme dangers that existed in the path of their course and to not chart another after the many past illustrations of what happens off the coast of Somalia is just not smart IMHO. What’s wrong with sailing around either coast of the USA as an adventure? This is an extremely dangerous world. If the only way to get your adventure pleasures is to stick your neck into a Pirate’s den, I can’t really muster up a whole lot of sympathy. I will pray for their families though.

A pleasure cruise off the coast of Somalia

They were 240 nautical miles off the coast of Oman in open water.

Whoa, easy. These guys are professionals and they are just doing their jobs. It's not their fault that the idiot voters (amid the vote fraud) put the Kenyan commie in the White House.

Sad story, made even sadder that the 15 pirates weren’t shark food.

re: But, being rich and stupid is not the free pass in the rest of the world that it is in the US.)))

Travel like this is a kind of status symbol. I know when I hear, "I love to travel" I'm about to be subjected to a long, boring, self-flattering spiel.

And the more exotic the travel style, the higher the status. Missionaries, please. This reminds me of a couple who take fabulous safaris and take it off their taxes on a phony charity as "education."

Too bad they weren’t union members calling in sick. Then the president might have done something for them.
