The Wisconsin GOP's terrible, terrible victimization (Moonbat blames GOP for fearing death threats)
Salon ^ | 3/11/2011 | Ron Legro

On display once again in the wake of the Wisconsin Republican vote to destroy collective bargaining for public workers: the fetish of self-victimization that conservatives seem to possess in spades.

In the aftermath of their most successful power grab in history, Wisconsin Republicans are in some cases too distracted to feel celebratory; instead, they're feeling assaulted and persecuted. Even when they are the very top of the piggy pile, they perceive themselves at the very bottom of it.

Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, the Wisconsin Assembly speaker and brother of state Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald (whose father was recently appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to run the Wisconsin State Patrol), actually took the floor yesterday to read aloud from some of the death threat emails he and other legislators say they have received.

Yes, that's right. The biggest issue for some Wisconsin Assembly Republicans after voting to undermine public employee unions? Their own safety. So concerned are they that they attempted to make it a big public issue, in much the way that Richard Nixon and his GOP made anti-war protests...

[Snip]

But fair-minded observers also need to regard the following additional context:

1. Politicians of all political persuasions and in all circumstances, not just situations as volatile as the Republicans managed to engineer in Wisconsin, frequently receive threats. That's just reality. It is reality for many modern celebrities.

2. Those threats come from a very, very tiny minority of citizens, and are sometimes just empty threats from very angry people who can't control their emotions.

[Snip]

Yet it is Republicans once again making a big, public, political deal out of all such threats...

Collective bargaining should not be legal for public worker. I say this pastor talking about the “working poor”—what a lie! Teachers making $100,000.00 and getting pensions and health insurance for free are not the working poor.

Nurses, where there is a shortage, can get GOOD jobs ANYWHERE!

Working poor my eye!

So, if you threaten a person's life, which is illegal, it's not a big deal if that person is a member of the GOP?

I think this is why I could never be a democrat. I just can't lie to myself and others on a daily basis the way these people do.

Or just plain old, modern-day Liberalism.

>>4. And, ironically, it has rarely been the case that conservatives or Republicans or other authoritarian political figures have been the targets of actual violence. While such incidents are not unknown, mostly it has been liberals and Democrats in the cross hairs actually experiencing threats and even getting injured or killed, from FDR through JFK and Martin Luther King to Rep. Giffords.<<

Yeah, no one ever took a shot at Lincoln, Ford, Reagan...

And did our wittle writer sort of forget to note the suspect who shot at Giffords was a LIBERAL?

(that is to the OP, not you, Q).

I wonder if this guy wrote any articles about Palin “targeting” voting districts and, if so, was as sanguine?

What a moron. It isn’t even worth looking at stuff like this because I don’t even think half of the Democrats believe it.

That death threat, even though it had atrocious grammar, appeared to be serious. How should they take it?

“So, if you threaten a person’s life, which is illegal, it’s not a big deal if that person is a member of the GOP?”

Yep. It’s an offshoot of the same deranged thinking of the Left blaming Palin for defending herself after being accused of inspiring the Loughner shootings. They’re insane...

This is one of the many reasons I support the 2A for self-defense.

Exactly- thought the same thing as I read. And I can’t forget all the Lefty crazies salivating over the Bush assassination film...

Yeah, just like it just a tiny, tiny minority of cops who beat on Rodney King, your liberal role model, remember? Yet that didn’t stop u and ur ilk from showing the video hundreds of times to a worldwide audience, nor rioting afterwards. How many people killed, wounded and how much $$$ property damage?

Exactly. Like the 11 year old child that was gang raped by the 20 #ers in Texas.

Conservatives tend to protect the life, liberty, and property of all citizens. Liberals are too busy trying to suck the life, liberty, and property of productive citizens to make that effort. It's a matter of priorities, really. There's just not enough hours in a day to do everything, you know. (Yes ... they are a little "touched" as my grandparents would have said.)

Yep. Or Keith Olbermann throwing a hissy fit over Hillary Clinton mentioning RFK and Obama in the same sentence in the 2008 primaries.

Or the very existence of the SPLC, which sensationalizes every supposed “right-wing” comment to imply immediate threats of massive violence.
