LA Times: Obama flirts with a doctrine
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 31, 2011 | By Doyle McManus

Is an Obama Doctrine in foreign policy developing before our eyes?

The president and his aides wave off the idea, at least if it means seeing the U.S.-led military intervention in Libya as a one-size-fits-all model.

In a 2005 pledge that some called the Bush Doctrine, our last president also declared the United States to be on the side of democracy activists everywhere. Obama has already used more military force in a country of secondary strategic interest than Bush ever did.

Right now, Obama and his staff are too focused on winning the war in Libya to spend much time elaborating on the fine points of a grand doctrine. They know that if Moammar Kadafi is toppled in a matter of weeks, they'll look brilliant; if Kadafi hangs on, they'll look like blunderers.

But the president and his aides also see the revolution in the Arab world as the most important event of Obama's time in office — as important, perhaps, as the end of the Cold War in 1989.

They are already working on a larger policy to help it come out right, including a big international aid program — one they hope will be funded partly by Arab oil states — to help Egypt, Tunisia and other new democracies succeed.

They won't call it a "doctrine," but it will almost certainly look like one. From here on out, they say, this will be the centerpiece; this will be what Obama's foreign policy is about.

He has about as much of a doctrine as he does a strategy with anything, not just foreign policy. He is the most indecisive, clueless, inept and vascillating president to ever stink up the Oval Office. And he has surrounded himself with similarly qualified "advisors". The end results are as predictable as a sunrise......chaos.

His doctrine is “Everything that is wrong is Bush’s fault.”

Obama hoping for a "big international aid effort".....

There goes our money down the ME black hole again.

We don't need an "Obama Doctrine".

Even the Monroe Doctrine dissolved into shambles years ago under the Demonrats.

“International aid” for the Arabs? Where is he going to get the money? The oil rich Arabs don’t need “International aid”. When we look at aid to Libya, something like $150 Million a year and look at what Libya payed for the Lockerbee incident, we payed for it, not Libya. Our politicians are so screwed up it’s pathetic. We need to stop all foreign aid until we get our house in order and then limit it drastically.

A doctrine defines one’s actions, not the other way around.

There actually seems to be several Obama doctrines:

“We make it up as we go along.”

“France leads, we follow.”

“When the U.N. speaks, the U.S. leaps.”

“Speak softly and carry a tiny stick.”

“We shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty—so long as it doesn’t last more than a few days.”

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.”

Our rookie world socialist is no match for Muslim terrorists. He’s proving it every day. He’s very dangerous for all of us.

Really? Seems to me that might be true if 'Victory' weren't so distasteful to this bunch.

And why would these religiously orthodox, authoritarian gulf regimes want to "fund" democracy? It's not in their best interests, long-term. Oh, they might throw in a few buck out of sheer politeness, but it won't be a meaningful amount. The US Taxpayer will get the tab.

Will Palin now be blamed for not knowing the Obama doctrine.....even though Obama hasn’t a clue what it is.
