Vietnam's foreign ministry has accused China of increasing regional tensions in an escalating territorial dispute.
A rare weekend news briefing followed a confrontation in the South China Sea between a Vietnamese oil and gas survey ship and Chinese patrol boats.
Vietnam says the boats deliberately cut the survey ship's cables in Vietnamese waters. China denies the allegation.
China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan all claim territories in the South China Sea.

Viet Nam & China have had many border shooting matches in the past.
Hopefully these will continue & escalate
If the dinks get into it w/ china they will be alone this time, it won’t last long.
Nothing would please me more than for these two Communist countries to start shooting at each other (again).
China seems to have played its hand a little early. Remember the Japanese islands’ dispute?.. They also have had skirmishes with Vietnam before...
India and Vietnam are actually increasing military co-operation with a eye firmly on ensuring China does not get trigger happy and try to take the islands by force.
It wouldn’t be China’s best interest if all the smaller countries banded together with a little muscle added in by India and possibly the US.
Hahahahaha! Vietnam should just ask for those 10 Chinese divisions they had in North Vietnam while they sent all their own North Vietnamese men South.

I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t know about that one. But then, it was so brief . . . Thought it had something to do with the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia, though.
I think it did - at least I thought it did. IIRC the Chinese thought the Vietnamese were getting a little full of themselves by invading Cambodia. I might have my dates off though.

Seriously, there’s simply [no shooting match] as massive, as deadly, and as immoral as [the shooting match] we know of as [the Vietnam war].
There, these VC’s and their civilian population drop like flies from the massive carpet bombing from B-52’s flying from 60 thousand feet above and it wasn’t until the JFK LBJ boy’s started to question their own Christian morals in the mass butchering that it had finally come to a roadblock of its own making.
If otherwise, these VC and there subjects would most likely have turned into ground beef sandwiched between a McDonald’s burger buns long long ago :).

Exactly my hope as well. I mean somebody have to smarten up the Vo Nguyen Giap’s of the Vietnamese pan handle if Nixon doesn’t have the ba!!s to finish off what JFK and LBJ had started.
I mean who better than a giant next door that have [an abundant supply of settlers like those of the Oregon Trails to simply overrun and overtake the country by force if necessary practically overnight if they so wish] if the Nixon boy’s didn’t have what it takes to the job.

Truthfully, all three... Errr... maybe four to include the Pino boy’s, are all reliant on the US military, solely, as their spines in their arm wrestling with the Chi-Com’s.
That precisely is why all four (Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and India, the latter two in particular) would allow America’s shadow to tag alongside them whenever they need to deal with the Chinese.

Nah! The truth is that [the Soviets had thought that the Chinese were getting a little too full of themselves and not China believing that the Vietnamese were smart a**es].
And, since they (the Soviets) had the Vietnamese firmly under their thumbs at the time, they instigated [the Vo Nguyen Giap’s] of the Vietnamese panhandle who had the idea of making the next Imperial Japan of Asia, to take the Chinese on.
News of Vietnamese commando incursions into Chinese territories (probably under demands by Brezhnev) started to filter into the press as soon as the Americans pulled out of Nam. Shelling by Vietnamese of border townships inside China were a daily main course entree.
It wasn’t until the USSR had disintegrated that hostilities of one sort or another had drastically been reduced in the border regions.
