This is not uncommon, but when they do this, they are typically not allowed off of the bases unless it is sanctioned and secure travel, such as accompanying the military in a convoy. They cannot commute to and from their family homes in Iraq.

OPSEC rules for US citizen Iraqi contractors are the same as for all of us - precisely to avoid dangerous situations such as the threat the website mentions.
