Oval Office Appeaser
The Daily Beast ^ | 8/22/11 | William Broyles

Posted on 08/22/2011 7:10:03 PM PDT by Nachum

When Barack Obama was inaugurated, a Republican president had taken the peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses of the Clinton years and given us two wars, a devastated economy, and an almost trillion-dollar deficit. Obama was going to be our Franklin Roosevelt, our Winston Churchill—a visionary leader who would give America hope again. Instead, he has turned out to be the Neville Chamberlain of American politics, drifting toward national catastrophe, one compromise at a time.

In the 1930s, desperate to keep the peace, Chamberlain caved in to every German demand. And he got war anyway. Let me be clear: the right-wing radicals in control of the Republican Party of course are not Nazis. But Obama is like Chamberlain. A decent man who values peace and civility at any cost, he’s no match for his Republican adversaries.

Somebody isn't paying attention. I wonder what he's smoking.

Bush didn’t destroy the economy, and the two wars were being waged with some success. Bush was relentlessly beaten down by a hostile media, called all sorts of names and made fun of in ways no person should have to endure for doing their job. The media pounded him and the Republicans until their party got a majority in Congress, and then started the recession which Bush is blamed for. This recession economy is a child of Democrat politics. Bush’s biggest fault was trying to appease the left.

The day the democrats took control of congress Nov 3rd o6’ unemployment was at 4,6%.

The last two years of the Bush years the dems had the frickin check book.

You can look at he graphs....as soon as they took congress...the economy started tanking...

Soros made 34 billion shorting the US housing market and the house of cards known as fannie and freddie , that the dems set up finally went poof...

Yes...some of us have been paying attention...

This Broyles guy says, “a Republican president had taken the peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses of the Clinton years and given us two wars...” obviously referring to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Col Frank Slade rightly makes the connection that, unlike Libia, these were conflicts that we could ignore only at our nation’s peril.

Yeah, if Bush had just taken the Clintonian foreign policy approach and bombed a Sudanese aspirin factory after 9/11, all would be well.

If there ever was a ‘legal’ War with international approval Iraq and Afghanistan are near or at the top. Libya (spelling cadafi?) is an attack. The french and british are taking their oil as we speak.

I would suggest that you ask for the title to be amended, so that freepers will read until the end. Is this the first time anyone has suggested in the leftist media that Obama should resign?

I think it is.

This should be marked, dated and catalogued for future reference.

Don't get me wrong an no doubt about it - compared to Obama, Bush sucked less.

The writer is basically calling for a dictatorship. O is too weak. He should seize the power. The left is leaving any pretense of working with the opposition behind. What will they do if they lose in 2012?

This article is full of disinformation.

However, I do like the notion that Obama has betrayed his believers and that they should demand that he allow Hillary to be the Democratic nominee of 2012.

What are the chances that he will do that? Well, not very good in my opinion.

One of the only things less likely than Obama asking Hillary to be the nominee is this: the writer of this article realizing that Obama's compromise and weakness has not been sacrificing Democratic party values, but American values, and that there is a much bigger enemy than Republicans.

He is already acting like a dictator.

His action on circumventing the deportation of illegal aliens last week proves that.

The DOJ and Fast and Furious proves that.

The Black Panthers and the DOJ proves that.

He ignores the role of the federal government in maintaining border security and has no problem attacking Governor Brewer.

He signs Obamacare into law.

He ignores DoMA.

He already has seized power.

What does the left want him to do when if he loses in 2012? Institute martial law and become dictator for life?

Who would remove him from office?

I ask that question, because no one has had the authority to review and determine whether or not he is eligible for office. We’ve been told that that power resides with Congress and that they don’t have the stomach for it.

If he decides to formally become dictator and announces his intentions on television and refuses to leave the White House, what action can the government take against him? What has been written out in the Constitution that actually enumerates who and how a tyrannt is removed?

Would it take Congress? Capitol police? Who?

The people?

How does this work? Because, we’ve always been a nation of LAWS, not of men. He’s acting like he’s a law unto himself. And that doesn’t work in America.

Regrettably, it has worked up to this point. I keep asking myself what are the Republicans afraid of. Maybe the answer is simply go along to get along, or maybe they fear what has already been done by this regime and know the price that would have to be paid. The sad part is ... that price will more than likely have to paid no matter what is done or not done. Fear makes those in charge strike out aimlessly or not strike out at all ... imho
