Hits by Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Take That are among 100 songs that have been placed on an internet blacklist by China's culture ministry.
Music websites have been given until 15 September to remove the offending tracks, which officials say harm "national cultural security".
Those that fail to do so risk being prosecuted by the Chinese authorities.

It's a shame that trashy freak show "artists" are the face of America to the world.
Beat me to it.
In some of the more remote villages, the peasants were making soup out of just born girl babies.
Too bad Gaga wasn’t born in a remote village in China.
Just sayin’.
China finally does something right.
FR favourite Amy Whitehouse too, please our Chinese friends!
Lady Gaga is a limey lib and Beyonce is one of the biggest Obama ass-kissers on the planet. Maybe the Chicoms did the nation a favor.
On mine too.
Isn’t Beyonce’s husband an Obama ass-kisser also? I just don’t see that there’s much room around O’s bunghole. The entire staff of MSNBC along with Bill Maher and Jon Stewart already have their tongues up it.
Just like a Chinese artist was hired to do the statue of MLK because they couldn’t find an “American” artist who could do a good likeness.
When I was in art school we had a Chinese artist visit and give a seminar on China—they had imported Classical teachers into China in the 90’s who were training their students with rigorous classes, where they would work on small figures for a year and progress to the next size, etc. Spent years to develop their “style” and learned every single technique of the Renaissance Masters, like artists in the West used to be trained up until the socialists took over in the 40’s and 50’s and then proceeded to deconstruct and destroy everything “Western” that had to do with excellence and Capitalism, including Christian ideology of right and wrong, individualism, and perseverance and self-sacrifice.
They inserted The Beat values (rampant homosexual pederasts) and Kinseys to destroy moral ethics and the cohesion of society and destroy relationships—create dysfunction.
Our art programs are nothing like their programs—and we celebrate urine covered crucifix, etc....and they revere Michelangelo and Giotto, etc. Go figure—they figured out what was so GREAT about Western Civilization—as we throw it out—they grab it!!!!
Tony Bennett called Winehouse one of the best vocal artists he’d ever heard.
I bet you that I’ve heard more than Tony Bennett, whose job is not hearing all the vocalists out there, and this mediocrity is one of the most pretentious, affected vocalists that I have heard.
(And if you’re familiar with the blurbs on the back covers of books and LPs, you’ll know how to judge Tony Bennett’s and other luminaries’ endorsements.)
Lady GAGME and Bouyance have been blacklisted in my home since they arrived on the, ahem, music scene. Have either of them even released a hit yet?
He compared her to Dinah Washington.

There was a time that old people were saying the same about Elvis. People who didn’t remember their own parents were saying the same about the jitterbug musicians the Elvis haters danced to. And so forth. Be proud of your continuity.
That said I’m not particularly a Gaga fan myself. She did one good song and the rest just seems derivative of the one. But moaning about the “youngins” music is the pastime of the terminally old.
Not for me thanks. Not yet anyhow. And even if it was I wouldn’t be in this big a hurry to endorse the thought control efforts of a totalitarian state.
Lady Gaga is one of the greatest over-achievers of our time. I’ll give her credit for her two breakthrough hits (”Just Dance” and “Poker Face”). But, it is amazing how she continues to command attention. And, there she is, the biggest money-making machine in show biz today. I think pushing the envelope is a big part of her somewhat artificial success.
On the other hand, Beyonce is enormously talented, creative and beautiful. With Beyonce, success comes naturally.
