NASCAR stars say no disrespect for Obama

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — NASCAR star Tony Stewart scoffed at the notion he turned down an invitation from the White House as some sort of political statement.

Stewart is among four Sprint Cup drivers who say they can't attend next week's meeting with President Obama because of scheduling conflicts. Eight others who made last year's Cup playoff, including five-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson, plan to be there along with NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France.

"Trust me, if we could be there, we'd definitely be there," Stewart said Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "I've always viewed it as an honor just to get an invitation to go. I've enjoyed every trip every time I've gone there. I've learned more and more about it. And it's pretty cool feeling to be with most powerful man in the world. That's not an invitation we take lightly."

When word got out that Stewart, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards wouldn't be going to the White House next Wednesday, it sparked plenty of chatter on talk shows and social media networks. There was speculation the four were making some sort of protest about Obama's policies on behalf of a generally conservative sport.

If I were a driver, I would tell the press exactly why I was not going...And watch their heads explode.

I knew the AP/MSM obama ass-lickers were going to make a fuss about this. The “how could you not come visit our god and master” questioning make one want to puke.

Stewart is a good liar. Motorsports is an American thing, and NASCAR is the most American of all of the venues. These guys salute the flag, listen with their hats over their hearts when the national anthem is sung at the track, and they are mostly Christians who pray before they race. FUBO is the antithesis of all of these values.

What is the political motive of the White House for inviting these people?

Notice AP doesn’t care about THAT.

The Wan’s batting a thousand this week on scheduling, isn’t he?

I think it’s hilarious. Those conservative, white, good ‘ole boys he hoped to rub their noses in it just showed him that they weren’t going to drop everything and run up to the WH for a BHO campaign photo op :-)

I absolutely agree with everything you stated in your post. It was very well said.

I'll also add that NASCAR is appealing to me because the athletes (and that's what they are) aren't of the thug element. They also don't pose themselves with the all-too-common menacing scowl (a la the constantly angry Mooshell Obama).

In contrast, NASCAR athletes are well-mannered and present a clean-cut All-American appearance:

I've been a longtime NASCAR fan and although its popularity is now widespread, it's roots are in the states where freedom and liberty is still cherished, standing solidly against union thuggery:

Before heading off for the night, here's one more pictorial study in contrast illustrating why NASCAR is the sport of American Patriots. Yes, one of them features Vice President Cheney -- which of the two photos he's in is left as an exercise.

HAMPTON, Ga. – All four of the 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers who won’t visit the White House next Wednesday insisted they have scheduling conflicts, not political issues with President Barrack Obama.

The four – Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick – had longstanding commitments to their sponsors and race teams that couldn’t be changed, especially with less than a two-week notice.

“I read where I rejected it. That’s not true,” Biffle said. “I can’t go. I have a prior obligation. I didn’t reject anything. Rejecting something means I won’t go. I can’t go. There’s a difference. I got an invitation before. I went, met him, I got a photo on my bookshelf in my office at my house of us shaking hands.”

Biffle will be at the 3M customer service day, an annual event of employees and customers of the company that sponsors his race car.

They would make great Ambassadors - they have "tact", which I consider to be the ability to lie with a straight face: Telling someone they are a piece of slime, without saying the words, and make it sound like you're being respectful...

Isn't it just like those rednecks - playin' the "politics" card, instead of standing up and saying it's about race.

Follow up a refusal worthy of respect with some whiny backpedaling and pandering.

Way to go, guys !
