Debunking the Perry Immigration Lie
townhall.com ^ | 9/25/11 | Kevin McCullough

Maybe Mitt Romney doesn't realize that nearly all of the rest of children of illegals had no choice in whether to live in Texas or not. If they were brought there by parents who were illegal--how is that the child's fault? Is Romney ready to charge those children with crimes? Mass deportations? Even Romney has not pledged to go that far.

Good luck and I like you personally but I’m over Perry....another BUsh over mexicans

It’s not about deporting kids...it’s about them paying non resident tuition

I watched the debate....sad

Palin is nuttier than hell if she doesnt get in now if she wants it

Perry just opened the door wide for her and then threw himself under his own bus as a courtesy.....and I was prepared to support him
With Obamas numbers and our frontrunners having zero confection to the base it will never get any better for her

There is no hiding from the fact that signing and defending the Texas Dream Act then calling those who don’t approve “heartless” hurt him badly.

And there is no going back after ascerting such a firm belief in the act.

“Educating them gets them working and contributing to the state’s treasury faster, and is more meaningful than letting them sit on the sidelines.”

For an article that claims to set the record straight, here is one Big Lie.

The fact of the matter is that if they are illegal and they graduate from a Texas college, they are still an illegal alien and cannot legally gain employment in the US.

Would you like me to point out the other BS in your article?

“By refusing to enforce current immigration law, the Obama administration has made life for border states unbelievably difficult.”

If the writer of your article believes that the Obama administration was the first to refuse to enforce immigration laws, he is completely out of touch with reality.

Why would Kevin McCullough state an outright lie in his claim that once illegal aliens graduate from a Texas college that they would then be eligible to work in the State of Texas?

Is Kevin McCullough a liar or is he ill-informed?

how about this: don’t give them government goodies such as subsidized tuition.

“It’s not about deporting kids...”

But it should be. This issue only comes up when the child wants to go to college at a state school — in other words, the “child” is no longer a child, but an 18 year old high school graduate who is now an adult choosing to break the law by living illegally in this country rather than returning to where they are actually citizens.

Perry and the legislature are wrong on this issue. They owed it to their taxpayers to take every opportunity to make life expensive and difficult for illegals, and certainly not spend any more tax dollars than absolutely required by the feds. Since the feds have tied the state’s hands on actual deportation, it is the state’s responsibility to encourage self-deportation. The feds require the state to provide K12 education to anybody who shows up, but it does not require in-state subsidized tuition rates, else out-of-state tuition rates themselves would be illegal. Hence the feds cannot be said to have forced TX hand and this failure of policy belongs solely to the TX legislature for passing it and Perry for failing to veto it.

Arguments that “they’re going to stay here anyway so we may as well educate them” makes as much sense as “they’re going to abuse drugs anyway so we may as well have government subsidize it.”

Kind of obvious that this is a shameless vote getter for Rick Perry. Pander to the Hispanic reconquistas by offering them instate rates on college tuition. You gutless Texans have just given up on that whole illegal thing. I was liking Rick Perry a lot better a few weeks ago.

Dick Durbin with his "Dream Act", Rick Perry is no different. This is a great incentive for even more illegal immigration. Giving them cheap college tuition. This is a magnet at least for those Mexicans who want college which is pretty few. Education is not highly valued in the legal and illegal Mexican community.

The more you pro-illegal Perry supporters post, the more you are rightly turning the majority of GOP voters against him as a presidential candidate.

You’re just helping to get the truth/message out and hastening voters coming to a sound decision against him as a candidate.

Thank you.

Rick Perry et al pander to Mexicans/Hispanics to get elected today. But at the same time they poison the well and eliminate chances for conservatives to win anything 10-15-20 years from now due to the flood of anchor babies eventually voting. We will end up with a few conservative states like Idaho, Nebraska and North Dakota while Democrats will be running every place else

Always the short time thinking. What is in it for me to win elections and screw those who come after me

Let’s take in-state tuition for illegals to its logical conclusion. If you support in-state tuition for illegal aliens, then:

1. Would you support giving them work visas after they graduate, so that their education isn’t wasted?
2. If so, would you then support giving them Green Cards (permanent residency), which would lead to citizenship, so that they won’t have to go home to lands they barely remember?
3. If so, should those whose parents couldn’t afford to send them to college get the same privileges as those who went to college? Should we give US citizenship to anyone who’s brought here below the age of 18 and goes to school in the US for three years?

Then there's this...

Federal law passed in 1996 prohibits illegal aliens from receiving in-state tuition rates at public institutions of higher education. Specifically, Section 505 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec. 1623(a)) states: "an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident."

To all the Illegal alien apologists...

What part if ‘illegal’ should we ignore? What other laws are OK to break “For the Children”?

This is far beyond the “heartless” thing Perry accused us of. As long as one American has to pay 1 cent to subsidize their presence here, that’s 1 cent too much. Don’t wait until they are in school. Deport them period. Their presence on this soil is a crime. It was a crime the nanosecond their parents dragged them across the border and it will remain so. Why let them get more ‘used to’ America? Let them grow up ‘acclimated’ to their own country.

I am through with the bleeding heart BS. Try sitting in pain with serious medical issues in an emergency room sometime while half of Mexico gets seen ahead of you.

Many LEGAL CITIZENS have and don’t try to deny it.

Try enjoying filling out papers at the morgue when an illegal killed someone you love in a DUI crash.

Many LEGAL CITIZENS have and don’t try to deny it.

Try filling out police reports on your stolen property when MS13 ‘children in school’ decided they needed your stuff more than you did.

Many LEGAL CITIZENS have and don’t try to deny it.

Try going to the unemployment office to apply for food stamps after a layoff and getting denied food for your family while more than 75% of the people in there are not even able to speak english, but their ‘children’ get the benefits you worked for and paid into (tax) your whole life.

Many LEGAL CITIZENS have and don’t try to deny it.

We have a border or we do not. If we do not enforce our border laws to the fullest extent then we are not a nation at all. How is it that we accept laws to ‘assist’ people who are not even LEGALLY here? Do you find this acceptable?

Yes or no?

I loved that part about where "he didn't care what their last name was" - a clear suggestion that all of us who are strongly concerned about the flood of illegal foreigners are just "racists".

Then Perry suggests that we "just don't have a heart".

No, we're just still looking for an honest man or woman who understands the seriousness of the situation and has a serious plan for dealing with it.

Perry isn't that guy. He's just another unctuous self-serving politician with a fluffy poodle haircut.

Dwight D Eisenhower ran “Operation Wetback”. He started deporting illegals in northern California and worked his way south. By the time he got to Arizonia all the illegals had already gone home; same for New Mexico and Texas.
