Yeah, those social conservatives and their stickiness on abortion. Why can’t they see the light? /sarcasm.

No effort to win them over, eh. The moderates can carry him to a failed bout with Obama, then?

At least he doesn’t have to fight the MSM who isn’t attacking him as they are some of the others.

Romney bets that he can win Iowa by talking out of his mouth in the right direction at the right time calculating a crab angle to compensate for wind correction and smiling to ease concern.

* Romney bets he can win Iowa without support from social conservatives * so ? whats your plan to do this Mitt ? voter fraud ? stuffing the ballots ? bribes ?

Here is what I don’t get... even the liberals admit that the Republican party has moved much further to the right over the last 20 years... and yet here we are about to possibly nominate the most liberal Republican since ... Nixon (Romney)
I just don’t see that happening.

Assuming that there is a bloc called "fiscal conservatives" who vote independently of the social conservatives, he still won't have enough supporters to win.
IMO this is his "excuse" for not winning the Iowa caucuses.
He has given up before the race is over.

I'll take that bet. The Harris Poll say he gets a BIG 12% of self identified conservatives - Cain BTW gets 19%. Cain gets 23% of TEA partiers and Newt and Willard get 14% each.
If Willard can win with those numbers he's a genius.

In 1980, the Republican field was chopped up among a lot of different conservatives, including [Ronald] Reagan.
No. I hate when people make such statements thinking that the people who were there don't remember.
Reagan and Rep. Phil Crane were conservatives.
George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, Howard Baker and John Connolly were moderate &/or "business" conservatives.
John B. Anderson was liberal.
Iowa was less engaged on the social issues in 1980. Bringing up 1980 makes NO sense for Iowa.

According to Perry’s pastor the “true Christians” are supposed to vote for Rick Perry. They had their “secret meeting” to figure out how to bring down Romney since Romney is not a Christian according to them and is headed straight to hell along with all the Jews and Catholics. Oh and by the way, all those horrible evil Mormons - The Mormon Tabernacle Choir (that President Reagan called “America’s Choir”) and Glenn Beck and 14 million of those nuts - are members of one huge world-wide CULT hell bent on ruling the world on behalf of none other than satan himself.
