Boehner to Side with Dems to Avert Government Shutdown
Fox Nation ^ | December 01, 2011 | Chad Pergram, Fox News

Another potential government shutdown could loom if Congress isn’t able to scramble soon and cobble together a big omnibus spending bill to keep the government open past Dec. 16.

The current stopgap measure expires then. And only three of the 12 annual spending bills which run the federal government have been approved and signed into law.

That means House and Senate appropriators are putting together a massive, omnibus spending bill which they hope to have prepared by Dec. 15. This would not be an interim bill, better known in Capitol Hill-ese as a Continuing Resolution, or CR, which funds government in increments while the regular appropriations bills are negotiated.

This would simply allocate money for the remainder of currently unfunded government programs through Sept. 30, 2012. I am told that House appropriators are resistent to attaching any extraneous issues to this omnibus bill … such as unemployment insurance (UI), a payroll tax holiday, the alternative minimum tax (AMT) or the “doc fix” for Medicare.

What is significant here is that House Speaker John Boehner and GOP appropriators are turning their attention away from conservative Republicans who want to cut spending more...

Why do we bother to vote Repulsican?

I’m good with a government shutdown until everyone gets back from vacation in January. We’re going to pay for them doing nothing anyway, why not just make it all official and shut down the government in the interim?

“Boehner to Side with Dems to Avert Government Shutdown”

Of course. That’s why he stuck a shiv in Newt’s back when he wouldn’t give way when he was Speaker...Boner is on the payroll for both sides.

Yup.

I fought all last night with some people on here about electing the likes of Newt.

These folks think that these republicans have our best interests at heart have another thing coming.

If we don’t get a conservative leader as the nominee we need to support a strong conservative third party candidate or else our country and way of life will be lost forever.

Earlier today there was a thread that FREEPERS thought Boehner was a hero again. Now this. I guess he is “zero” again. This guy goes from zero to hero and back again many times over.

One correction, if we push a third party candidate, then this country surely is lost forever, because zero will be reelected. You can take that silly philosophy and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Has the lesson of Ross Perot not been learned by some on here?

Impossible. I have been reading all week that Boenher was a member of the 1997 GOP coupe to tople Newt as Speaker because he compromised too much with a Democratic President. So how can it be that Mr. Purity would now side with RATS? Can leadership be that difficult?

Boner was not in the leadership at that time, dang, and the vote against newt was over 90% against. Tom Delay was whip. What I want to know is what was the evidence that caused such a majority vote.

“We’re going to pay for them doing nothing anyway, why not just make it all official and shut down the government in the interim?”

A lot of feds will be off much of December anyhow, many using leave under ‘use or lose’ circumstances. The remaining few will either be taking leave themselves or be largely doing nothing of substance.

The first thing that needs to be done is to declare that there will be NO MORE CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS! The fact that the government hasn't come up with a budget in YEARS provides cover for both leftists and ... Well, all the irresponsible big government congress-critters, left, right, and middle. By not having a budget, they can just spend on anything they and their masters' little, disease-ridden, puss-filled hearts desire, while the taxpayers get screwed, again and again!

Everyone to whom I've spoken about the government budget had no idea that those bastards in the democrat controlled senate have turned it into a black hole... The house sends a proposed budget in, but nothing ever comes out! Heck, the MSM has done such a terrific job for their masters in the dem party, not a one knew that the senate is even controlled by the dems!

What Boehner should do is offer ONLY essential spending, e.g., about 80% of military, courts (gotta keep criminal processes moving or the bad guys get set free), etc. and then publicize that fact.

If the REST shuts down, let’s see who cares besides hardcore Dems.
