Ron Paul Rising
NYTimes ^ | ROSS DOUTHAT

The race for the Republican nomination may be coming down to Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, but in the contest for the Iowa caucuses, their high-profile battle might still turn out to be a sideshow. The national party has spent the last two weeks resigning itself to a choice between the former speaker and the former Massachusetts governor. But Iowa Republicans may end up choosing between Gingrich and Representative Ron Paul.

In every post-Thanksgiving poll but one, Paul has been neck and neck for second place in Iowa. In most of them, he has lagged well behind the soaring speaker, coming in just below 20 percent while Gingrich hovers around 30. But a new Iowa survey, from Public Policy Polling, shows Gingrich leading Paul by just a single point, 22 percent to 21.

Moreover, the caucuses are not won by opinion polls alone. They’re won by the politician who can pack Iowa’s churches, libraries and community centers at 7 p.m. exactly on a frigid January Tuesday, and whose supporters won’t suddenly decide to back a different candidate during an hour’s worth of jawing, dealing and very public voting.

I laughed when I pictured Newton wearing a toga.

More proof that the Obama media and polling continue their promotion of the useful idiot Paul. As long as he has value in polluting the GOP primary process with his kook libertarianism, they will pump him up with garbage polls.

When they are done they will roll out his vile loony newsletters to undermine him.

The Paulies must be running low on drugs. Coming out and answering phones and such since they are sober and straight right now.

Won't last.

Thank God...

seriously, if Ron Paul wins Iowa (which I don’t think he will) then Iowa should be stripped of it first in the nation status, because they will have made themselves the laughingstock of the US.

How does an OWS sympathizer, anti- Semitic, anti defense of America ear mark king of congress have any traction at all.
The man is delusion and his supporters are as well.

Journalists (Sarah Palin being a notable exception at the University of Idaho, a school that's probably not run by commies) are liars and will do anything to advance their communist and homosexual agendas. They are taught in J-School to hate America and to place stories to dismantle our legacy of Conservative values.

I’ve heard Sarah say some very nice things about Ron.

Paul could only rise in the Dracula sense. Where’s a good stake when you need one? Medium well done please.

I believe the Ron Paul vile, sick, wacky newsletters are informative.
I believe the Ron Paul blaming of the US for 9/11 is informative.
I believe the Ron Paul support of the OWS parasites is informative.
I believe the idiotic Ron Paul comments about Iran and North Korea is informative.
I believe a good look at the bulk of his cult is informative.
I believe Ron Paul frequenting nutcase conspiracy shows is informative.

I think that both Iowa and New Hampshire should have been stripped of their leadoff positions long ago. In particular, Iowa has a pernicious record of progressive populism dating back decades. This is the state that brought us Henry Wallace, a commie and Hussein Obama, yet another commie.

Personally, I advocate that Tennessee and then Oklahoma ought to displace Iowa and New Hampshire. Both states have a track record of sanity and Conservatism. And they are small enough so that an inordinate amount of money need not be spent to reach the voters. I think that the people of both Tennessee and Oklahoma are much more in touch with authentic American values than either of the two present states leading off the primaries.

Trust me, although I do have some praise for the man, he is by no means my first choice....he’s already gone.

I’m just so frustrated with Newt and Mitt.

So many great repubs out there, but they seem to be afraid of the media. Or they’re just biding their time for the 2016 election.

I cannot handle another 4 more years of what’s going on in this country.

I totally agree. I hate the primary process all together. My vote in GA is totally irrelevant even in the nomination process.

What are the cons to having all the primaries on one day? Then having run offs between the top 2 or 3...
