I’ve heard Sarah say some very nice things about Ron.

That's just the always kind-hearted Sarah Palin being gracious and choosing her words carefully. Here in the venue of Free Republic, we can embrace the words of our leader:

"Ron Paul and his flaming antiwar spam monkeys can Kiss my Ass!!" -- Jim Robinson, 09/30/07.

I could live with either of those states leading things off, but I suspect many would object to another southern state being frontloaded.

Maybe another midwest state ... like... wyoming, nebraska, or kansas?

"Ron Paul and his flaming antiwar spam monkeys can Kiss my Ass!!" -- Jim Robinson, 09/30/07. I agree with his sentiment. I am not anti war. But I don't want a war, especially after one like Iraq. If war is necessary then let's do it. But war mongering, in my opinion, is not the best course of action. I wish we could assist the Iranian people in a "Arab Spring" style revolution. We could provide NATO air support as we did in Libya, and let the Iranians die in the fight for their freedom.

You forgot Ron Paul supports legalizing drugs and prostitution.
This alone marks him off my books.

What are the cons to having all the primaries on one day? Then having run offs between the top 2 or 3...

From my perspective, a single "Super Primary" has the drawback of candidates focusing attention solely on the three large states of California, Texas and New York. It takes a massive amount of dollars to make the media buys in big markets. It also dilutes retail politics at the person-to-person level.

The present system has worked reasonably well up until the time that Iowa and New Hampshire moved to the left. The more I mull this over, launching the Republican Primary in Tennessee and Oklahoma (as I advocated a few posts back) looks like a reasonable solution. Oklahoma is a clear choice because not one county went for Obama in 2008. Although Tennessee did give us the despicable Al Gore, the fact that he was soundly rejected in 2000 shows that folks in the Volunteer State are right-thinking.

Tennessee and then Oklahoma ought to displace Iowa and New Hampshire. Both states have a track record of sanity and Conservatism.
Conservatism is exactly what the RNC and the GOP Elites do NOT want. It will never happen.

My first choice and second choice are gone too. I will never vote for Ron Paul. He is NOT GOP. He is NOT conservative. He is NOT Tea Party. He is a libertarian, and a kook one at that. A back to back of nation destroyers, Obama then Paul would do the final destruction of the nation.

I kind of like NH having a big say in the process since they’re surrounded by blue states. Ya need to know your enemy.

But Iowa just seems sorta pointless. Especially with the caucus style format. Everyone in your neighborhood knows how you voted. Too commie for me...

But Newt is a Bush clone! He’ll never get elected.

I’m afraid what I see happening is 0 getting reelected.

The pubs will take the Senate. That way come 2016 it will be a landslide election for the red states.

I see you point but a case could be made that Oklahoma is a Midwestern state. Heck, it's got a suburb of OKC named Midwest City! :-)

Although I still like Tennessee and then Oklahoma, if I ran things, I'd be willing to alter it to Tennessee and Kansas. There's regional balance there and a good mixture of country, suburban and city voters.

If he flipped his position on dope smoking, a lot of his support would bail.

Not a big RP person, but I’d hardly say the media’s treatment of Ron Paul has been anything approaching promotion. If the media promoted his economic (well, everything besides his wacky foriegn policy) views, that would be a better day for America, indeed.

In 1996, Speaker Gingrich supported a Democrat-turned-Republican in the Republican House primary won by Ron Paul, who then defeated Democrat opposition in 1996-2010. The two are not friendly.

The media puking out liberal-based garbage polls as if they are fact “promotes” Ron Paul. The average person who pays attention to the liberal media these days don’t read anything further than the NY Times “Ron Paul Rising” headline.

seriously, if Ron Paul wins Iowa (which I don’t think he will) then Iowa should be stripped of it first in the nation status, because they will have made themselves the laughingstock of the US.

****************************************

With modern communications, I question the whole concept of staggered primaries. Even if there are good reasons for the staggered dates, the states should be rotated. Loaded dice, working as intended.

“Won’t last”

Yeah, but up to now, we’d been promised that it wouldn’t start.

It has started.
