Ronald Reagan, trailed President Jimmy Carter 47 percent to 39 percent in a survey completed on Oct. 26, 1980.

Take a look at the Gingrich-related comments here on what is probably the premier conservative website, and see if more then 50% favor Gingrich.

Ask again after the primary is finish for the real number.

Really, I think most people, including many democrats I know, are horrified at the thought of a second obama term.

The winner of the GOP primary is the next president. It may be close, but it is inevitable.

How did we get into this mess. I have never seen a poorer crop of GOP Presidential nominees. I will say this for Romney we have been betrayed by other who have theri conservative base battened down and then had to give everything away to win moderates and independents. With a President Romney we would have someone with the moderates and independents in the box and have someone who would need to do something to keep the base happy or they would rebel and cost him the nomination. But cant we get someone else quick? I know the deadlines are past for the first primaries. But, I think someone good would get a lot of support quick and be able to win by sweeping the back primaries. What about Jindal, McDonell, Portman, Christie, Thune or even Huckabee, If they got in quick surely people would rally to them and even write them in. It is not to late.

Thought it would be much worse. Guess the WSJ wanted to keep it believable since 53% say the One Termer shouldn’t be re-elected.

Merry Christmas

I would love to listen to Newt in person. And I am a female. Not real concerned about his weight, his hair or his muscles - except the muscles between his ears.

This is troubling. That half of all voters won't vote for Gingrich in November and he trails Obama by 10-points.

It is December 2011. It is eight and a half months until the convention. It is ten and a half months to the election.

What do you imagine the purpose of the general election campaign to be?

Do you believe polls taken in December 1979 indicated that Ronald Reagan would be elected in a landslide?

As a matter of fact, polls taken in August 1980 indicated that he had no chance at all.

Sorry for the double post. I saw Newt once in our office building (a military command in SE VA.) I knew the day he came what the schedule would be and decided that I would be in/around/near the corridor he would be taking on the way to the presentation he was making. I had purposed in my heart that if the opportunity arose, I would introduce myself and shake his hand. Indeed, I was in the hallway he came through with the protocol officer and a couple of others. He walked right past me...I didn’t have the courage to step up and do what I had endeavored to do previously. Anyway...opportunity lost.

I was a Cain Supporter and am now an undecided.

Newt and his wife still come across “optically” as GOPEstablishment, Beltway Insider - which I still can't quite overcome myself.

Newt's Humpty Dumpty image, his inability to relate to the middle and lower income class, I think, is a huge problem.

Right now I'm not convinced he can beat Obama. Great Debater and Historian - but motivating people and getting them enthused about his candidacy just isn't there. Herman Cain had that Reagan quality that got me motivated, enthused, ready to get on the train and get out the vote.

I'm just not there with Newt. But I will be resigned to vote for anyone but Obama.

What a sad state of affairs.

Hey, is that you pissant????

Really, would pissant have posted a "Miss Me Yet?" image of Palin, AND another one of her at one of her biggest rallies in 2008?

You know better than that...

Without the independents swinging to our side we lose......

The independents have already abandoned the Bamster. He’s a goner. That’s not bravado, that’s not wishful thinking, that’s scientific fact. Poll after poll show Obama’s re-elect mushy and getting mushier. Doesn’t mean we need to rock back and wait for November 2012 to pop up. We keep at it until then by talking to our friends and families to assert the truth about Barack H. Obama and the disaster he has presided over.

Not worried about it. Gingrich will make the case for conservatism, win or lose. For us, even if Newt loses, we’ll still make progress because our message will have been articulated well before a national audience. Romney will be McCain redux—he’ll run left and stay there if elected. We can’t have that anymore.

You nailed it. Little gain in winning the primary battle and losing the war. 4 more years of Obama and the nation is over the abyss.

Nonsense. We survived 8 years of Clinton, we can survive 8 years of Obama if we have to. Personally, I'd much prefer Santorum, Gingrich, or Perry in the WH. I'd even take Bachmann or Paul.

The only Republican who is complete unacceptable is named....

Willard Romney

Let's make sure we don't have to face an Obama versus Romney scenario, ok?

A few weeks ago Newt trailed Romney by 25!

Things can change in a hurry.

Remember how our Tea Party threw its weight behind Sharon Angle and the easily beatable Reid was re-elected? Do you want to risk a repeat of Obama and have a 2-term Obama take our nation to a point of no return just so that a message can be articulated? I hope not.
