A Portrait of the First Lady as an Angry Young Woman
American Thinker ^ | 01/13/2012 | By William Sullivan

Michelle Obama has recently taken issue with her critics for allegedly perpetuating the idea that she is an "angry black woman."  "That's an image people have tried to paint of me, since, you know, Barack announced, that I'm some angry black woman," she told CBS.

"Who can write about how I feel?" she went on. "Who? What third person can tell me how I feel, or anyone, for that matter?"

One does not have to take a leap of faith to believe Mrs. Obama to be an "angry black woman."  It is nothing more than a logical conclusion given the evidence she has provided.

"For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of my country."

These are the words of Michelle Obama in 2008, said in response America's energetic reception of Barack Obama. And clearly, they are the words of an angry person.  A person who is so undeniably resentful of this nation that has provided her with a path to education and affluence that she can boast only having become proud of it when her husband was considered for the presidency and a fundamental change to its character was embraced.

This resentment stems, at least in part, from her early days of adulthood at Princeton.  While there, she produced a thesis that offers little more than derision for the prevalence of "white culture" in American academia and a lamentation that blacks who attend universities (particularly prestigious ones, like Princeton) come to identify more with the "White community" than the "Black community."  In a time in history when America sought to destroy once and for all the racial divisions lingering from our roots dating back to the European aristocracies, Michelle Obama harbored too much resentment and anger to commit to the abolition of these dividing lines.

The arrogance of the “deserving right” to be owed something, anything just because of the color of your skin and not the content of your character. We all know someone like her in our daily travels. It’s called affirmative action. If we think she’s difficult now wait until her man is defeated in November. Im sure her colors will shine for years to come

Michelle reminds me of every female “buppie” I end up sitting next to in a restaurant. Bad tippers and truly mean to the staff.

“Im sure her colors will shine for years to come”

If so, it will be proof positive you CAN polish a turd.

One supposes Michelle only has a 1/3 objection to being described an angry black woman. That being the case, vehement protests might actually validate the description.

Using the Race and Gender Cards to intimidate anyone who thinks she’s an Angry Black Woman, Angry Black Woman acts like Angry Black Woman because people think she acts like an Angry Black Woman.

On another note, my experience is that Black men are the most vocal in talking about this stereotype. I’ve heard a handful give quite pointed descriptions of the stereotype as justification for staying the heck away from ever considering marriage or long-term relationships with women of their own race.

“...how could she make the statement that she had never in her adult life been proud of America...?”

I’ll tell you how:

Her ‘education’ to that point was deficient. We learn by direct experience but ALSO by proper education:

• I remember, as a young person, reading about the sacrifices, privations and efforts of colonists during the Revolutionary War to free the colonies from England. I couldn’t have been a teen yet, but I remember being so proud America.

• I remember watching ‘Victory at Sea’ and other chronicles of American wartime sacrifice and experience. I was very proud of U.S. efforts in aid of our allies and finally on our own against Nazis in Europe and against the Japanese in Asia.

• I remember hearing my parents and grand parents talk about how fortunate they felt to be in America and not still in ‘old Europe’, where there was NO opportunity and where they would still be the victims of criminal oppression.

I could go on, but the point is that these things did NOT happen in MY lifetime ... however, I knew about them because my education (formal and informal) included documented information about American history. I knew because our schools made it their business that I should know, and because in my household, respect for the United States was a GIVEN and NOT some debatable, conditional set of ideas!!!!

MO hates America and there is no getting around this fact.

To overcome the charge, justifiable in my view, that she is an angry, anti-American radical, all Michelle has to do is issue a statement to many of her flunkies who adore her in the media that she loves America and all that it stands for. That includes mentioning the people we have freed and the economic prosperity our economic model has brought to the world. I don't care if she throws in a few jabs at America's racist past.

If she can move forward and publicly praise the country that has made her one of the most privileged people in the world, it would go a long way towards mollifying her critics. But I'm not holding my breath.

There is no evidence that Michelle Obama is anything but angry.

It shows in all her pictures, even when she is trying to hide it.

She is very angry, and I think her excesses in spending and lifestyle are a form of payback to non-black Americans.

We are not bodies with a soul, we are souls with a temporary outer casing of a body and the eyes are the reflection of the soul inside.

You look at the eyes of Michelle Obama and you see a soul twisted by hate, anger and bitterness.

You look at the eyes of Barack Obama and you see a dead soul.

That's just a randomly selected architectural element from a French Gothic cathedral ...

Not sure if it's actually a gargoyle, or merely a grotesque.

She is an angry low class, low rent full of hate woman married to an angry low class, low rent full of hate man. They both need to go.

Good essay. Sounds like Michelle is black first, human second. Kind os stupid because “black” is not even a religion. But to her, it is.
