NBC, Brokaw denounce Romney ad

Via POLITICO's Reid Epstein, NBC News and Tom Brokaw are loudly objecting to the Mitt Romney campaign's use of footage from the 1990s in an ad blasting Newt Gingrich over his House ethics charges.

Brokaw, whose statement noted he was speaking on his behalf, said, "I am extremely uncomfortable with the extended use of my personal image in this political ad. I do no want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign."

"The NBC Legal Department has written a letter to the campaign asking for the removal of all NBC News material from their campaign ads," NBC News said in a statement, which added, "Similar requests have gone out to other campaigns that have inappropriately used Nightly News, Meet the Press, Today and MSNBC material."

Romney is pulling out all the stops. He is desperate and he plays dirty. He will probably blame this on his PACs too.

Too bad so many Floridians voted before they saw the dirty tricks Romney plays come into the game.

That's not it at all. Brokaw doesn't want his old "news" reports - which were and still are pure propaganda - held up to scrutiny.

So NBC is using “intellectual property” rights to stifle a candidate. Remember a while back, several bands were objecting to their music being used by Pubbie candidates, or played at rallies?

And this is without SOPA!

No, this is Brokaw’s ‘I, for one, welcome our Conservative overlords’.

The LSM knows Newt has very interesting plans for them, and there is zero they can do about it.

The world will be incendiary in wanting President Gingrich’s ideas and time and he can deliver it himself, the media middleman is therefore and henceforth CUT OUT.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha

You can't use old newscasts for political ads! The statements in those clips might not be true! /nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

In all seriousness, it is pretty common knowledge to not use anchor statements in political ads. Kind of a rookie mistake by the Romney team.

...I do not want my role as a journalist...

Brokaw wouldn't know what a journalist was if one came up and spit in his face.

There was probably little hope for those that anxious to vote for him anyway.

We can pray that the rest come to their senses by Tuesday.

Romney is picking a fight with NBC and this ad is getting additional exposure because of it. If Newt were doing this, everyone on FR would be cheering him on. It’s called fair use and all the candidates do it. Even if Romney eventually has to pull it, they will have achieved their objective. Pretty good move on their part. And the irony is the NBC stations are still running the ad.

Frankly, I am glad to see someone else sticking it to NBC.

And please don’t put the word journalist and Brokaw in the same sentence. It’s an insult to the profession.

His mother who indoctrinated him to advocate abortion -must- have. I mean, here he is. Sort of.
