Law on same-sex marriages mean (UK) churches 'will be forced to conduct gay weddings'
Mail on Sunday (UK) ^ | PUBLISHED: 19:36 EST, 11 March 2012 | UPDATED: 19:41 EST, 11 March 2012 | Steve Doughty, Social Affairs Correspondent

A law to allow same-sex marriages will force Christians to conduct gay weddings in church, it was claimed yesterday.

An analysis of equality law by Church of England lawyers suggests assurances from David Cameron and his ministers that no church will be compelled to provide such ceremonies are worthless.

Ministers have repeatedly said since the plan for same-sex marriage was announced five months ago that it would apply in civil law only and that gay wedding ceremonies would not be imposed on churches.

But lawyers working at the CofE’s Church House headquarters have said equality laws will mean churches have to treat gay couples asking for a wedding in the same way they treat heterosexual couples. …

Ministers are expected to lay out plans for same-sex marriage in a consultation paper later this month.

The scheme is expected to propose civil gay marriage, with churches left out.

But equality laws introduced by Labour in 2007 have already disrupted 11 Roman Catholic adoption agencies because they are no longer allowed to decline to place children with gay couples.

And the same laws, now enshrined in the 2010 Equality Act which was voted into law by the Coalition, will, CofE lawyers believe, make churches offer weddings to same-sex couples if the law permits them to marry.

The scheme, which Mr. Cameron introduced, saying that ‘I don’t support gay marriage in spite of being a Conservative. I support gay marriage because I am a Conservative,’ is expected to propose civil gay marriage, with churches left out and gay wedding ceremonies to be held in state register offices or ‘approved premises’ like stately homes. …

What kind of a supposed conservative is that? He "support(s) gay marriage because (he's) a Conservative"??

Cameron's in the wrong party. He's bypassed Labour and landed right in LibDem territory.

Time for churches to get out of the marriage business.

I think ultimately, what will happen, is that churches will be forced to shut down entirely and we’ll have to go back to the New Testament way of witnessing, on our own.

Um, no. If that happens, the Marxists win. And these churches look like they’re ready to begin fighting instead of laying down on the issue.

When will the mosques be forced to comply?

If we’re in the last days, they are supposed to win. In the very last days, Christians and Jews will be targeted for elimination.

Ain’t last days great!

Of course they will not. Politicians have no shame, nor any commitment to consistency. There will be some lame excuse to exempt them.

Well, isn’t that the burning question. (Emphasis on the “burning” if they try to face them with it, which of course they won’t at all.)

I'm not sure, being an American, but I believe there may be special church-state relationship with the Anglican Church which would hold them to a different standard. Going back to the days of King Henry VIII the Crown has asserted complete authority over the church he created at times. :)

Parliament may have assumed some of that authority during the period of the Roundheads when there were vicious fights between the fledgling Anglicans and attempts to reassert the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. That controversy ended abruptly in the favor of the Anglicans when some Catholics were caught trying to plant a bomb beneath Parliament. This is still celebrated as Guy Fawkes Day.

The church should not be forced by these rogue anti-God governments to offer the vows of “Holy” Matrimony to people whose union is considered an abomination to the very God they are saying these vows in the name of! Let em have a civil service. This, that, and trying to force them to provide free abortifacients is enough to see that we are heading towards that last days persecution stage unquestionably.

Good question!

I’ll bet you have not got an answer!

Separation of Church, BAAAH!

Specially not State & Church separation!

About back to where we started 235 years!

Without a Constitution!

On September 6, 1819, Thomas Jefferson wrote: “The Constitution is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please.”

I’ve said this all along ... they will not stop until churches are forced to comply with the twisted behavior of gays. Yes, there IS an agenda.

I’ve always thought it would be funny if a clergyman agreed to marry two gays, then read scripture from Sodom and Gomorrah during the ceremony. (Of course, he would be arrested or executed on the spot.)

Lesson to be learned from this:
When politicians offer a vague bill and say, “No, this won’t affect the church.” Do not believe them.

Every gay rights bill is incrimentalism. Bit by bit, step by step. Its satanic in origin, and its the foothold needed to persecute the church.

I disagree with the title. IMO this unjust and unreasonable Law will force churches to declare whom they serve! Do they serve the one True God and Jesus Christ? Will they be true to the Laws dictated by God Himself— or will they submit to the invalid laws contrary to Gods Law. This law will force the Brit to rediscover Blackstone—and they must decide if Blackstone was Right or if their Gay law is what they choose.
For there is No validity in human laws that are contrary to the laws dictated by God Himself.

"When will the mosques be forced to comply?"

Ha! You nailed it. The fastest way to bring a screeching halt to this madness is to get two guys to pretend to be gay, pretend to convert to Islam and demand to be married at the most lunatic filled Jihadi generating mosque they can find. At that point we could all sit back with our popcorn and beer and enjoy the three ring circus that would immediately ensue.

If we’re in the last days, they are supposed to win. In the very last days, Christians and Jews will be targeted for elimination.

Only saints (the elect) will be targetted by the anti-christ.

They shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. (Matthew 24:9)

The "Jews" are not hated for Jesus Christ's name's sake. They recoil at his name.

You really should read Matthew 24 (Mark 13) and Revelation. The so-called Jews, who deny that Jesus is the Christ, are anti-christ, according to the Bible.

For many deceivers are entered into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2 John 7)
And:
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowlegdeth the Son hath the Father also. (1 John 2:22,23)
