Cheney Axes Canada Trip Because It's Too Dangerous
Newser ^ | Mar 13, 2012 | Kate Schwartz

Posted on 03/14/2012 6:38:54 AM PDT by Dick Holmes

Today's "we swear we're not the Onion" story: Dick Cheney has canceled a planned appearance in Toronto ... because he fears it could be too dangerous a trip to take. "He felt that in Canada the risk of violent protest was simply too high," explained the head of the promotions company that had scheduled the April 24 event at the apparently risky Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The National Post reminds us that Cheney reportedly got stuck inside a Vancouver building for seven hours during a September speech after a protest outside indeed turned violent and a security guard was choked.

not to mention while he’s on the ground Soros could engineer a no-confidence vote in Harper, and the caretaker PM might extradite him to The Hague on war crimes charges.

Cheney’s health is not good. Bet that is a bigger issue than this nonsense.

Reporters disease.

“... after a protest outside indeed turned violent and a security guard was choked.”

Why aren’t they ARMED?

Oh, I forgot: it’s Canada. ‘Nuff said.

I had a really nasty experience travelling to Canada 2 years ago. The border guards treated me and my wife like dirt. We were just on a business trip to two customers in Ontario.

We're going to Niagara Falls ("Slowly I turned ...") the end of March.

I'll be damned if I'll set foot in Canada again.

F&^k Yu, Canada!

What was the event?

Judging from the comments there, it’s probably the right decision.

Because of my hostility (if that's the right word) to the TSA and belief that the terrorists are not finished with downing aircraft, I like to note that if I cannot get somewhere by bus, train, or car, I won't go. I wish to clarify that destinations are restricted to the USA. I won't go to Canada or Mexico.

Cheney always seemed a cautious man with his own life, if he felt uncomfortable going there it was his call. It is easy to think of Canadians as sort of Americanish Lite but many of them do not really like us all that much. It has been the frozen refuge for those opposed to United States since the Revolution. I had one friend who was descended from Shawnee Indians who went up there because they refused to surrender to the hated United States. Despite the fact that he was of mixed race, was several generations removed from that event and having moved to the United States for economic opportunity, he was pretty critical of this country. I only mention that example because it reflected the feeling of moral superiority I have found in some Canadians which is why I like to poke fun at them on occasion. If we are for it they sometimes sort of oppose it just on principal. Dick Cheney is the great imperialist bogeyman to the self righteous leftists which makes him a magnet for trouble.

I'm not sure you would feel that way if you were in Ontario when the G20 Summit was on here. Understand too that Ann Coulter had to bail from an Ottawa speech for the same reason of 'not being able to guarantee security'. It would appear that an extremist leftist media can manage to get anyone whipped into a frenzy....even a generally peaceful group of people.

Sounds like quite a few experiences that I've had traveling in the other direction....

Canadians aren’t violent, but insane leftist/anarchists are. They are paid to do such things. We will see it in the U.S. before the elections.

Vile cretin all.

I have not been to Canada since the Gun Registry came into being.

As a now retired RV'er I would love to see the sights of western Canada.

Since I am not allowed to posses a hand gun there for my personal protection Canada does not get my tourist dollars for those 3 to 4 months trips.

It is a beautiful country, but no way.

I have made several fishing trips into Canada over the years.

With the exception of one individual I have been treated fairly by Canadian Officials who had a job to do.

Crossing the border back into my country I also have been treated like dirt by US Officials at the border. Rude and crude before 911, can't blame that on Canada.

Well maybe not outwardly violent, but vicious innuendo and expressed wishes for harm against Cheney are very common up there. Even a former head of one of the three national parties did it.

You outlined the exact reasons why I would not go to Canada. It has a lot to offer but I would never go there for the reason you noted, i.e., cannot protect myself with a firearm of my choice.

There are some states (New Jersey, New York, all of New England come immediately to mind) I wouldn’t go to either, for the same reason.

The states north and east of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia are at the bottom of my list of places to visit in my RV.

Some good people, great sights, but...

Is he a greenie or a leftie? Bet he is a Green Party hater, they are just like the anarchist/lefties.
