Defense minister says Obama most supportive president of Israeli security; Panetta to arrive to press Israel to give sanctions time.
In what appears like a clear endorsement of a presidential candidate, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Monday night that Barack Obama has been the most supportive president on matters of Israeli security throughout the two countries' diplomatic relations.
In an interview aired late Monday night on CNN, Barak told Wolf Blitzer that the Obama administrations support of Israeli defense and intelligence establishments was far greater than under any other administration he remembered working with since and including President Jimmy Carter.
"I think that from my point of view as defense minister they are extremely good, extremely deep and profound. I can see long years [and] administrations of both sides of [the] political aisle deeply supporting the state of Israeli [sic] and I believe that reflects a profound feeling among the American people," Barak said.
"But I should tell you honestly that this administration under President Obama is doing, in regard to our security, more than anything that I can remember in the past, he added.
Baraks interview to CNN came just days after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney visited Israel and just before US Secretary of Defense will visit the country.
In an interview with Israel Radio on Monday, Barak was asked why he did not meet Romney during his visit to Jerusalem on Sunday. There is one president at any given time in the US just like here there is one government, he responded.
Panetta will arrive in Israel on Wednesday for meetings with Barak and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. He will also tour an Iron Dome counter rocket defense battery, a program that the US is helping to finance.
Israeli officials said they expected to Panetta to press Israel to give more time for sanctions before launching a military strike against Irans nuclear facilities. On Monday, he said that Israel has yet to make such a decision and expressed hope that the escalating sanctions on Iran would succeed in stopping the regimes pursuit of a weapons capability.
"And while the results of that may not be obvious at the moment, the fact is that they have expressed a willingness to try to negotiate with the P5+1, and they continue to seem interested in trying to find a diplomatic solution," Panetta said, referring to diplomatic efforts by the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany.

PT was right...A sucker is born every minute.
PT was probably right back then. Now I think we’re up to one a second.
Like John McCain, no one doubts Ehud’s personal courage, and like John McCain his political judgements have been increasingly geared towards surrender and defeat of his own country seemingly based on some vague international promises and standards that terrorists tribes don’t recognize. They both play to the leftist establishments looking for approval with no regard for the innocent that will die because of their own egos.
Obama has done all he can to promote radical, violent Islam and isolate Israel, of this there can be no doubt. Ehud is playing to the Israeli peace at any price sector as he did as PM and as such even when he had to fight as PM he held back.
Goes to show that just because someone is a successful general or military officer that person doesn’t always have the best judgement in areas that don’t have clear rules.

Got it. Say no more.
If Ehud Barak was a member of Likud, his endorsement of hussein might be worth taking note of.
Ehud Barak reminds me of Barney Frank. I think ith the lithp. Maybe thath the real reathon he chootheth to endorth The Won.
I have no respect for him regardless of his credentials. He has been blinded to evil in the years since he honorably served.
Not so, he famously refused to let Arafat walk behind him at Camp David. (Afraid the guy would try to shtup him from behind!)
Ehud Barak is blind to evil by his endorsement today. He may have recognized Arafat for what he was but is blind to the evil agenda that resides within Obama.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Who cares about Barak and Panetta, what do Michelle and Valerie Jarret think.
Ehud Barak
SPIT!
As a rule, most former war heroes are Moderates at best when they retire and enter politics.
They seen so much killing, they feel as if they can now talk peace, even with those who only wish them dead. Besides, they are best at killing their enemies, not talking to them.
Look at many of America’s historical heavy weights in military, if they became politicians, they became wimps.
No, generals should retire and go play poker, not run governments, because democracies need military’s, but they are not military’s.
