(CBS News) Beginning today, up to 47 million women may be eligible to get free access to preventive health care services as that provision of President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act goes into effect.
Under the new provision that goes into effect August 1, 2012, women will be eligible to receive the following eight services without paying a co-pay: Well-woman visits, Contraception and contraceptive counseling, Gestational diabetes screening, HPV DNA testing, Annual sexually transmitted infections (STI) counseling, HIV screening and counseling, Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling, and Interpersonal and domestic violence screening and counseling.

These services have always been available, through your local county health department. This might be in conjunction with Planned Parenthood too, not sure, but I know that anyone has been able to get BCP’s or whatever, even back in the late 70’s when I was in nursing school. We did time at the local health department as student nurses, did clinicals there again in the early 90’s when I was working on my BSN, and I am pretty sure all this was available.
In fact, when we got married we had to get HIV counseling at the public health department. Free. We could have paid for it but doctors weren’t doing it, sent us to the health department.
This is a huge election year August Surprise. Keep paying your taxes, folks, they are gonna need the money.
Nothing connected with medical services, Rx providing, x rays and lab tests is free. All are subsidized by employers and insureds paying premiums to the health insurance carrier or taxpayers if the non paying patient comes under some government plan. By not charging the woman patient a deductible or co pay, the cost is shifted to others in the plan or the premium payers. “Free” is what slimy politicians call robbing Peter to give Paul a non earned benefit.
I wonder if this is just a coincidence with why we received paperwork asking us for information to shop around for a new health insurance policy yesterday from my husband’s employer. Now they want us to submit health information online so they can “shop around”. SO ANNOYING!
As everyone has pointed out - *FREE* birth control has been available to those who wish to get it through county health services, or other family planning clinics. I’ll bet the BigPharma companies who make these types of medications are singing and dancing today. They can hike the profits as much as they want and not worry about losing their customer base any longer. I will never understand how liberals think that ANYTHING is *Free*, and that making something *Free* will REDUCE costs overall. It signifies a complete lack of intelligence, IMHO. As if these companies will forgo profits? ROFLMAO - wish I had BigPharma stock...

People should really push the point that SINGLE MALES (and Females) are now FORCED to pay to cover pregnancy and gynecologic services even if they do not opt for a “family” health-care plan. I hope someone makes note of how much health premiums go up for SINGLE insured plans after this implementation.
Perhaps make a comment on how her premiums will be going up, along with all of her SINGLE male co-workers? Mammograms and Pap Smears can be obtained through County health agencies, or family planning clinics, and have been “FREE” for a long time. As if this is going to make it more affordable overall?
In all fairness these things aren’t JUST about failing to remain a virgin... Not that I agree with forcing insurance companies into not being able to offer less expensive health care plans for those without increased health costs due to gender - it’s just that pretending this is all about failing to keep someone’s legs closed isn’t going to go very well if you are attempting to open someone’s eyes...
Particularly if it’s a slutty whore’s eyes you’re trying to open.
Oh, I forgot... Only slutty whores need regular pap smears and mammograms, right? There’s no need for those early Cancer detection tests, right??? Your ignorance is on full display here... Did you know that some teens actually need to take BCPs NOT for Birth Control, but to balance their hormones so one day they can become mothers, thereby allowing them to “be fruitful and multiply” within a solid marriage?
Again, I DON’T agree with this Unconstitutional BS, but there are much better ways to frame this argument without getting pulled into the BS minutiae that will cause your point to get completely lost on more people than those “slutty whores”.
