Haters Need to Shut the Hell Up About Gabby Douglas' Hair

As of yesterday, 16-year-old Gabby Douglas is officially an Olympic gold medalist. But some people watching her compete weren't focusing on her floor exercise --they were distracted by her hair.

Monisha Randolph, who runs a blog called Sporty Afros, has been dismayed with what she's seen:

So what's the big deal about Gabby's hair? From what I am reading on Facebook and Twitter, many African American women who are SITTING and WATCHING Gabby compete believe her hair is not "kept."

She needs some gel and a brush…

Someone needs to give her a hair intervention…

She has to "represent"…

The writer goes on to say black hair is considered "political" and that Gabby is being disrespected because she has "white person's hair".

Also this revelation:

... "A large number of Black women do not work out because of their beloved hairstyle. This is so sad and this is why Sporty Afros was created. We are here to help women with their workout hair care solutions and crush excuses such as 'I can't workout because of my hair.'"

I had no idea.

I HAVE heard Gabby is a Christian who gives Jesus the glory for her success. Thank God for young women like her.

I noted that several of the critical comments on Gabby’s hair were from fellow black people. So this was not a racial thing(entirely).

It is clear. Gabby is having problems handling the pressure. She has great talent but and she could be great next time and maybe win more if she is not too old for her sport.

Yeah, I think it WAS racism...racism on the part of the hateful blacks who were ripping Gabby for having “white” hair.

Her hair. Seriously. I saw Gwen Torrance on an Atlanta news station yesterday and she was talking about how “important hair was to black women.” For real. I cannot comprehend that culture. Although it could explain when I was living in Cynthia McKinney’s district she used to hold seminars at her headquarters on black women hairstyles...

They’re just catty old women who hate other, more successful women. Sarah Palin was treated this way too. Just about every female has experienced this kind of treatment sometime in their life. For the famous it’s just more intense, like with Sarah and Gaby.

Gabby Douglas wears her hair just about the same as every other gymnast in the Olympics - and the same as Michelle Obama. Only a racist would complain that she's not fitting their image of a black girl. She fits my image of an all-American girl, and she has my respect for both her talent and her character.

It is women, not a particular culture/race. I have a coworker that has “money” problems, but will not miss her $100 hair appointment because keeping her hair “blonde” in her forties is such a high priority.

I noted that several of the critical comments on Gabby’s hair were from fellow black people. So this was not a racial thing(entirely).

Actually, it's ENTIRELY a "racial thing," by people who see every aspect of life through relations to race.

These are the same people who say that using good grammar is "trying to talk white" (sic), studying and getting good grades in school is "trying to act white," and refuse to divorce the entire criminal thug culture from race, and claim gangs membership and violence is "a black thing."

It's completely racial AND despicable!

What a lovely young lady! Beauty starts within, and Gabby Douglas has a real sparkle in her eyes. She earned her gold medal with hard work and brilliant performances, and she has conducted herself with grace, poise and dignity. Well done, Gabby Douglas!

I have a message for those haters on Gabby’s hair.

She got the “bling” that truly means something.

It’s sort of what I called “ballet” or dancer’s hair. Worn off the forehead, pulled back from the ears and put into a tight bun. You can’t be a gymnist with hair falling into your eyes and mouth.

But black women do have trouble with their hair. I know it’s a big issue with them.

So, we have black women criticizing Gabby’s hair and a NY Times writer ripped Lolo Jones re being a high profile woman first and a failing runner who does not live up to expectations.

It appears to me that it is all about demeaning the two girls for hard work. Jealosy plain and simple.

“....many African American women who are SITTING and WATCHING Gabby compete believe her hair is not “kept.””

My guess is that these complainers are a bunch of fat, monster butted cows. Would they be happy if she stuck a bone through her hair? Such a bunch of fools.

Gabby’s hair looks fine. Cheer her on, she’s an American for crying out loud.

And her delightful smile doesn't hurt a bit!

It doesn't matter if those people criticizing her hair are black or white. If they're criticizing her hair based on her race, those booger eating morons are viewing everything through a racial prism.
