State [CA] muscles grocers over plastic bags
Cal Watchdog ^ | Aug 21, 2012 | Katy Grimes

The plastic bag activists are at it again, and they are nothing, if not persistent. With the eleventh bill regulating plastic bags in less than 10 years, grocery stores don’t have a chance in California.

Passed today by the Assembly, SB 1219, the latest plastic bag regulation bill, by Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, will require grocery stores to implement, manage, and report on the “At-Store Recycling Program” to the Cal Recycle state agency.
.
.
“This bill is a really, really bad idea,” Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, R-Hesperia, said on the Assembly floor during debate Tuesday. “Plastics manufacturers are leaving the state. And we’re telling grocery stores, ‘you must take back this product.’”

Assemblyman Brian Jones found irony in a bill specifying what stores must do to recycle, given that much of the purchased food and products put inside of the bags is packaged in plastic. “Is this the best use of our time?” Jones asked.
.
.
In many of Sacramento’s low-income neighborhoods, and public schools, trash is strewn about, including plastic bags and bottles.

So who does the littering? Why go after the plastic bag manufacturers instead of the litterers?

My friends, neighbors and I reuse our plastic bags for garbage, changing kitty litter, for doggie-do bags, or a second time at the store. I used to use them as diaper discard bags when my son was a baby. There are numerous reuses for plastic bags, which most people take advantage of.

“Why go after the plastic bag manufacturers instead of the litterers?”

Because the majority of the litterers are Rat voting vermin and parasites. Recall the filth after the Obama DC inauguration vs the cleanliness after DC Tea Party rally.

Liberals always go after the inanimate objects--they want to ban guns instead of locking up gun-wielding criminals, restrict access to marking pens instead of dishing out harsh punishment to graffiti vansals, make it hard for cold sufferers to get pseudoephedrine instead of coming down hard on drug dealers, etc.

And now the incidence of contamination is rising from the use of apparently-clean but actually-contaminated cloth bags. I wonder how much we help the environment by throwing those in the washer after every use? These idiots are running right over us and we're letting them.

I, for one, am glad to see this development.

Because here in Kalifornia we've got all our other problems -- like the budget, which is balanced; and illegal immigration, which doesn't exist; and crime, which doesn't occur; and municipal bankruptcies due to obscene pension obligations, which have never taken place -- all solved.

Manufactures are fleeing the state of California due to the sky high tax rates...EPA regs...and unions.

At the grocery, there are also cloth, insulated bags one can buy to put frozen food in so it won’t defrost before you get home. I used mine for a different purpose. I was going to stay at a hotel that didn’t allow dogs - so, I put my four pound Yorkie in the insulated bag (the insulation made the bag keep its form) and carried her into the hotel and up the elevator to my room. That was an excellent purpose for that grocery cloth bag. I recommend insulated grocery store bags for carrying small dogs.

We are about to mount a campaign initiative in CA to prohibit the State from regulating plastic bag transactions between consumers and retailers. The “single users” are all for providing free plastic bags in parks for dog poop, but against people enjoying an efficient and economical means of transporting purchases, carrying lunches to schools, lining trash cans, etc. These lobs are absolute morons!

In Montgomery County Maryland ( THE Freak State) and in WDC, you are charged $.05 for each bag that you get from stores. LIBs are insane...very insane.

Bring back paper bags then you morons! They were always more environmentally friendly anyway. Plus they don’t collapse in the back of the car the first time you take a left turn creating a table hockey game of canned goods vs. bread.

We are in Pasadena, which implemented NO plastic bags July 1. I call it ‘The Occupied Territories,’ because right next door they bag in plastic. I visited my sister in Colorado and brought a whole pile of plastic grocery bags home with. I hear you can also order them on Amazon for $20. I often ask for a box for my groceries or bring in plastic bags. I do think there is money to be made or at least a ministry for those who sit in front and pass them out/ sell them for a quarter.

“The government exists to protect our rights, which come from God.” I don’t recall anything about ‘to regulate the citizens’ lives to the nth degree.’

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” — C.S. Lewis

I’m sure they do but I’m also sure my little dog is cleaner than they are. Plus, she is not a homo.

I watched a French comedy movie the other day; on a rainy night a guy tries to check in with a dog. Clerk says no dogs. Guy comes back with a carrying bag, sets it down and checks in. Clerk sees the bag rise up and walk up the stairs. Clerk shrugs and goes back about his business.

Maybe you can cut holes in that insulated bag for your Yorkie's feet!

Thanks for the suggestion but what keeps her from bumping into walls? I was glad she didn’t decide to bark during that carry time.

She was so good in the car. She has her own doggie seat and didn’t try to climb out. She could see out so she see what was going on and eventually lay down and slept.
