Rachel Corrie Case: Who Is to Blame, IDF or ISM?
Arutz Sheva ^ | 28/8/12 | Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Posted on 08/27/2012 11:45:54 PM PDT by Eleutheria5

A verdict is to be handed down Tuesday on a suit blaming the IDF for the death of activist Rachel Corrie. NGO Monitor says, “Blame the ISM.”

Corrie was an American activist for the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who was killed in 2003 when an IDF bulldozer hit her as she protested the demolition of homes in Rafiah, in southern Gaza.

Her family filed a suit in Israel against the IDF, accusing it of irresponsibility. Corrie's father believes the driver of the bulldozer intentionally struck her with his vehicle, while the soldier testified that his view was obstructed by a pile of rubble.

The Defense Ministry has stated that Corrie “was in a known combat area” and that the IDF is not responsible.

Prof. Gerald Steinberg, president of NGO Monitor, said, "Rachel Corrie's death was a tragedy, but it could have been prevented. Leaders of the ISM movement have repeatedly made statements in support of violence."

“The International Solidarity Movement describes itself as ‘a Palestinian-led movement committed to resisting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land using nonviolent, direct-action methods and principles.’

“The ISM has a long record of encouraging activists to take ‘direct action,’ even if that means putting them in harm's way, often in direct confrontations with the Israel Defense Forces. Rachel Corrie's actions as an ISM activist were very much part of this strategy of dangerous confrontation.”

ISM co-founders Adam Shapiro and Huwaida Arraf said in 2002, "The Palestinian resistance must take on a variety of characteristics, both non-violent and violent...Yes, people will get killed and injured... ......

She was fine until they brought her to a Palestinian hospital. Her friend said that he even talked to her and her injuries seemed superficial.

But the Palestinians needed a martyr, so made sure they got one. Blame the JOOOOOOOOSSSSSS!!!

The world swallowed it up.

No mention was made of how the leftists now no longer send their wounded to Palestinian hospitals, even when they are on the other side of the Israeli border, like that tree sitter Tristan who took a tear gas container to the face... they waited a long time to get him to an ISRAELI hospital, and were careful not to send him to a Palestinian one, or he too would have wound up a martyr.

Corrie's father believes the driver of the bulldozer intentionally struck her with his vehicle, while the soldier testified that his view was obstructed by a pile of rubble.

It was a big bowl of pancake batter.

"Corrie's father believes the driver of the bulldozer intentionally struck her with his vehicle, while the soldier testified that his view was obstructed by a pile of rubble."

Let's be real here, the guy was driving an armored D9. I doubt he had any idea Corrie was down there. The drive's field of view is limited by the armored cage and by the position of the driver. Certainly he wouldn't have heard her over the noise of that monster, either.

Note the size of the two people standing just behind this D9.

I'm sorry this young woman put herself into a dangerous situation and lost her life as a result. Especially because I think she had it all wrong when it came to who she was supporting. But the fact remains it was her incredibly foolish actions that put her in that danger, not the bulldozer driver or anyone else.
