Timeline of Katrina and Isaac Landfall and Presidential Visits: Obama Slower than Bush
Freeper Editorial ^ | 4 Sep 12 | Xzins

There are some arguments, of course, that could be offered against a simple comparison of timelines. However, given the political realities of hurricanes making landfall around New Orleans, I find it amazing that Obama delayed a visit to this area. In light of a levee being breached, massive flooding, and torrential rain damage, one really has to wonder whether political gamesmanship made him ignore these people for political points.

Additionally, President Bush flew over the day before he visited. (Note the wiki timeline below: it seems to indicate a Bush visit on 1 September, but I could not corroborate that.)

29 aug morning 215 am – Hurricane Isaac, Cat 1 at landfall 2 (final landfall)

29 aug morning 610 am – hurricane Katrina, Cat 3 at landfall 2 (final landfall)

2 September President Bush visits area early day = time lapse of 102 hours, ~4.25 days

3 September President Obama visits area late day = time lapse of 132 hours, ~5.5 days

And if Romney hadn’t visited Friday, Barry would not have come down to that Red State at all.

Point being is that if 0bama weren't running for reelection he would have never left the golf course.

I have seen more of him on the tube since the RNC than I have seen of him in 3.5 years!

He's like a lot of union workers, his mindset is that his job is done when he gets hired!

O will get 90% of the black vote nationwide, so he doesn’t have to pander. If it was a swing state, he would have been there every day for the past week, but he’ll lose LA handily.

And it’s polarizing for the nation to see him pandering to blacks during a natural disaster when he didn’t visit predominately white areas in the midwest which have been devastated by tornados and drought.

Everything he has ever done is politically motivated.

I think it is foolish trying to compare Isaac and Katrina.

Katrina became a Category 5 hurricane and was the most destructive hurricane in terms of dollars of damage in our nation’s history.

Isaac barely made Category 1 status and did not stay that strong for very long.

The storms do not reasonably request equal response.

Obama has plenty of real problems in his actions and decisions. We do not need to make up false problems. It only makes us look like we don’t know the difference.

“And if Romney hadn’t visited Friday, Barry would not have come down to that Red State at all.”

You got that right. Plus, if one takes a little more time to examine the situation, for example looking at the photos from Slidell, and Plaquemines Parish, one will see that the people affected are largely - guess what? - WHITE! Yep, it seems the so-called POTUS could not be bothered until beaten to the punch by Mitt Romney, and because it seems it was whitey who was affected. Go figure....

If you are not on the ground in LA to see with your own eyes, how do you know what the response should be? All of your information is filtered through the MSM that is working hard to protect obama.

Blank-Oh and Dallas Ray worked with the DNC to put Bush in the worst light possible, and they have blood on their hands for playing politics.

yes - all true

and, in addition I read somewhere that in each case there was a huge celebration of sodomy in NOLA on the same weekend each of the years - just coincidence, of course.

If you are not on the ground in LA to see with your own eyes, how do you know what the response should be?

So did you look at the response time for ALL hurricanes, or only the worst one and the most recent one. You will find that relatively minor hurricanes/tropical storms to do not get an immediate presidential response.

And honestly, the president is not qualified to evaluate the level of response required. That applies to President Bush and Obama (although I believe Bush would know more).

A presidential visit is only for grandstanding, public view of the president and the president's desire to see it for himself. The real decision making for the specifics of the response are done by other more qualified.

And most presidential visits, actually hinder the response if he tries to due more than a fly over. Even that restricts air traffic that may delay needed responses.

All of your information is filtered through the MSM that is working hard to protect obama.

I do not depend on the Lame Stream Media for my sources of information. Do you think Isaac and Katrina should have had the same level of response? I have stayed in my home while a hurricane passed through the area destroying fences, throwing trees into our power lines and ripping apart our roof. I am not speaking from only disinterested view through the mas media.

And let’s not forget that it took Obama WEEKS to visit the Gulf Coast during the Gulf oil spill.

Then he spent 15 minutes on a beach and went off to his expensive vacation.

Katrina was a cat 3 when it made landfall.

However, read the first sentence of the article again.

Also, the political implications are enormous in terms of appearance. Obama blew it off. I’m puzzled.

Katrina was the most destructive storm (in terms of dollars of damage) in our nation history.

You can look at measured wind speeds at the moment of land fall and try and pretend it wasn’t that big of a deal if you want.

But the storm surge and corresponding waves then flooding compares to little in recent history.

You can pretend the should have had equal presidential response. Those who understand hurricane damage see a vast difference.

Obama has lots and lots of real faults. When we make up stuff pretending he failed, it diminishes the argument of his real failures.

Let us focus on the real problems. There are enough of those to go around.

Obama is a low life cad to be blaming President Bush for the destruction of Katrina. I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when President Bush tried to get the attention of LA in regards to the incoming Katrina. I am in Missouri and I can remember. Katrina did not directly hit LA. It was the ‘water’ that breached levies, that the Army Corps of Engineers were supposed to have kept updated that cause the damage of Katrina in New Orleans.

I also remember that Lawyton Childs refused to ask for ‘federal’ aid when hurricane Andrew hit Florida, alllll for political purposes to blame Bush for non-response.

These liberal freaks will do whatever it takes to take advantage in order to win elections.

Sorry, but if we have to stoop to their level, I’m not interested in participating.

We conservatives are better than that. If we are not, what are we fighting for?

I'm not stooping at all. Personally, LA would have been better served if all the dollars spent by anyone touring destruction was spent on the ground. The Weather Channel is reporting 2 billion dollars of destruction in LA from tiny little Isaac.

I do find it despicable for politicians to use natural disasters for political gain, helping no one but their own political futures. And in hurricane Andrew and hurricane Katrina and now Isaac, liberals once again pull out their old worn handbook.

Again, read the first sentence.

(And again) However, the political calculation has me fixated.

You can defend the size of Katrina all day long, and you will still be missing the point.

What makes it even more fascinating is that it really bothered the White House that ROMNEY beat Barry to NO by a day. Carney had a special release saying the One had scheduled his drive-by before Mitt had.

So, given the above, allow me to repeat. Bush beat Barry by a day.
