The day after he officially accepted the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention, President Barack Obama energized a crowd of thousands in New Hampshire with a speech laden with policy and partisan politics.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden spoke outdoors under sunny skies at the Strawbery Banke Museum, with American flags draped over nearby buildings. Their wives, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, joined them onstage at the end of the rally. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is scheduled to hold his own New Hampshire rally in Nashua on Friday evening.
Obama, in rolled-up shirtsleeves, spoke for nearly 30 minutes and said the election is about “two fundamentally different paths for America.”
“Ours is a fight for that basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the strongest economy our world has ever known,” Obama said. “The promise that hard work will pay off, that responsibilities will be rewarded, that everyone gets a fair shot, everybody’s paying their fair share, everybody’s playing by the same rules from Wall Street to Main Street to Washington D.C.”

Yes, Republicans want to cut taxes. Democrats want to raise taxes. Everyone got it? Or do we have to talk about it fir another 30 years before we can include a couple other topics?
I wouldn’t know. I was one of the millions that refused to listen to him Thrusday night. Readers Digest came out with their new edition and I couldn’t miss their delightful jokes to listen to ANOTHER OBama speech.
By the way, why do we care th at he rolled up is shirt sleeves? Is that supposed to me he was getting serious all of the sudden.
They are both just jokes going thru the motions.
And Obama offers government as a cure to anything. The difference is, what Republicans offer has been shown to work over and over again—from Coolidge to JFK to Reagan to W. Bush....over and over tax cutting gave the economy a boost. Obama’s Keynesian crap has never created prosperity—anywhere on earth.
Even if more government employees were a good thing, something very fundamental is missing from this jobs discussion. No one ever speaks in "job-years." Are these jobs permanent, or would we spend God knows how many hundreds of billions for a couple of years of make-work?
Only the private sector produces permanent jobs--that is, jobs of unknown duration, depending on the success of an individual business. The government takes money from the private sector, and spends it on "jobs", but since these jobs aren't very productive, there is no permanence. What happened to the jobs from the Great Stimulus? How many of those people hired are still working?
I propose a new metric: Dollars spent per job-year. A job-year corresponds to one temporary job lasting one year; or two temporary jobs (like census workers) lasting a half-year.
I bet the private sector produces jobs with a much longer mean employment time, especially when they are allowed to earn a decent after tax profit.

The stupid republicans can’t seem to tell the audience that Wisconsin, Tx, Ohio, NJ all had debt but they figured out how to cut spending get less regulation and add revenue - those things which the democRATS say is impossible and the media laughs at. But it is getting done and the story lays on the old news papers at the bottom of bird cages
What a massive misinterpretation and deliberately misleading statement about the ideas and foundations which built what he simplistically calls "the largest middle class and strongest economy our world has ever known."
No, Mr. President, to begin with, Americans escaped those old ideas of "class" distinctions when they fled other countries for America.
It is your generation's focus on so-called "progressive" and backward ideas which classifies Americans according to income and other artificial methods.
America's idea was different! The U. S. Constitution was framed to make it possible for class, and even racial distinctions to be eliminated and for individual liberty and opportunity to become possible for every citizen. It took some years and much treasure, but that was the goal, and it was largely achieved.
Now, regressive ideas from the Old World have come back under a new brand--"progressive"--but they are the same old, tired ideas where power-hungry elitists, under the guise of "leading," enslave minds and laborers, all in the cause of acquiring power by false promises.
America became what it became because of a set of enduring principles which limited the power of such "leaders."
Tired of having the fruits of their labors confiscated by an overpowering British government, America's Founders declared themselves free and independent.
Most American schoolchildren can recite their claim that ". all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights ... to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Less familiar, however, are these lines from their Declaration of Independence:
"He ( King George III ) has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance .... He has combined with others to subject us, ... imposing taxes on us without our consent."
What, then, did the Founders consider to be the real cornerstone of man's liberty and happiness? On what basic premise did they devise their Constitution? Let them speak for themselves:

Their guiding principle was that people come together to form governments in order to SECURE their rights to property - not to create an entity which will, itself, "take from the mouths of labor the bread it has earned." What was wrong for individual citizens to do to one another, they believed, was equally wrong for government to do to them.
The right to own property and to keep the rewards of individual labor opened the floodgates of progress for the benefit of the entire human race. Millions have fled other countries to participate in the Miracle of America.

Imagine Mitt and Ann sitting on a loveseat. Mitt whispers into Ann's ear: "What would you say to a long-term capital gains tax cut tonight?"
Ann: "Oh honey, you know what it does to me when you talk IRS policy!"
Mitt: "Wait'll we itemize those deductions..."
Ann: "Oh, Schedule A is my favorite!"
On the bright side Basic Bargain is less rhetorically threatening than Square/New/Fair Deal, Great Society, or the whatever Frontier.
