The US ambassador in Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack after the diplomat's car was targeted in the eastern city of Benghazi, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
A statement from President Obama "condemned the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens".
The president added: "Chris was a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States."
Earlier, Libya's interior ministry confirmed that Stevens died in the attack. "The American ambassador and three staff members were killed when gunmen fired rockets at them," a Libyan official told Reuters.
An unconfirmed photograph posted on Facebook appears to show a mob dragging a lifeless Stevens along the ground, his shirt off. Some reports say he suffocated to death. Libya's deputy prime minister, Mustafa Abushagur, said security forces had launched a manhunt to find the killers. "I condemn the cowardly act of attacking the US consulate and the killing of Mr Stevens," he said.

So how do “not the mainstream of peaceful muslims, but a few radicals” get rocket propelled grenades and intelligence that the ambassador was going to be in Bengazi instead of Tripoli?
My instincts tell me that this administration wouldn’t mind if the next Republican POTUS were to inherit a situation requiring us to go to war in the Middle East...again.
This is simply the result of disastrous foreign policy on the part of Dear Leader, Barack Hussein Obama.
Obama and his running dog lackeys should be ashamed ~ this should have been one them, not someone with the training and talent of Ambassador Stevens wasted like that.
The horrible just fate of those gullible who vote for and endorse “Hope and Change”.
The good that can come out of this - Obama is seen for the lily-livered coward he is, and Hilary will be seen in all her PC-ness too. “We are saddened.” Oh, no, TEARS? That will really put the jihadis in their place.
What if Winston Churchill had said that? “The UK is saddened by Germany’s very mean and unwarranted carpet bombings of London.”
Gad, what fools.
Mohammed was a pedophile.
Just look at the horrifying conditions in which Islams billions of adherents live. Your religion begets your society, and muslim societies suck everywhere, 100% of the time.
The Koran states that Mohammed married Aisha when she was 6 years old, and consummated the relationship when she was 9 YEARS OLD. Thats pedophilia in any society in any era.
Islam sucks. Mohammed was a pedophile.
In the United States, we have a perfect First Amendment right to say what we think. I dont much care whether Muslims are offended by what I think or say.
We also have a perfect Second Amendment right to help ensure the validity of our First Amendment rights.
RPGs are common men’s attire in your wilder parts of the MIddle East.
Libyan security forces moved the Ambassador to another building... then some of the LSF rated his location to the militants.
I read two Marines were also killed.
Supposedly the Ambassador's body is in US possession. No word how it was recovered.
No word how the Egyptian Embassy "Apology Statement" was issued without approval from the White House.
50 Marines are on the way to secure US interests, but by all accounts the consulate is burned to the ground.
“In the United States, we have a perfect First Amendment right to say what we think. I dont much care whether Muslims are offended by what I think or say.”...
There IS a difference between shooting one’s mouth off and simply having been within earshot.
You know it strikes me as odd they way our Intellectual elites try to give us “a perspective” as they soft sell Moslem Murder.
“There are different types of Moslem’s in the Middle East. We can’t lump them all in group”.
“We have not seen a statement by the Muslim Brotherhood condemning this atrocity”.
“We have to keep things in perspective. There are 85 million people in Lybia and 2,000 showed up at the embassy. Clearly those 2,000 are not representative of those 85 million”.
So let’s put this in my perspective.
85 million people were powerless to stop 2,000 animals from killing our people? Seriously, GTF over yourself.
Those 2,000 were given and will continues to receive imprimatur to act anyway they want, as agents and proxies for all Moslems, by deafening silence that says “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Go Ahead. Praise be to Alaugh”.
I heard this same crap after 911 and you idiots continue excuse Alaugh adherents and actually, make excuses for the murdering slobs as well by this statement.
All of Moslem Mudders with support and in secret they high five each other “Got another one today Mo”.
If I was President I would absolutely go Biblical on the whole Mohammedan wannabe’s, could be’s and their supporters.
I would wholesale slaughter every man under the age of 40 and call it “four score” and you are now F^&*(d for at least one generation.
“Lucky” I’m not the President....
I'm not sure that's right. Have you been to Turkey or Brunei? Qatar? The UAE? Great places.
A lot of Christian countries meanwhile are pretty lousy places to live. DR Congo? South Sudan? Haiti? Eritrea? Burundi? Mozambique? All are majority Christian.
I’ll also add that this comment “Your religion begets your society” makes no sense. What societal features, other than Christianity, do Canada, Belarus, Bolivia and the Congo have in common? My guess is nothing.
Killed?! He was murdered and his corpse defiled. Yellow journalism.
Have you been to Eastern Turkey? Not Ismir, Ankara, or Istanbul, but Diyabakir or points East? Pretty Rustic if you get my drift.
See what your "good intentions" got you, Mr. Stevens? What it got you was FRIGGING DEAD, you dumbass!
I find scant pity for the fool or his family.
His death is on his own head.
I've got the Nomex on so bring it, if any care to.
Being Jewish, I wouldn't dare go with my yarmulke on and Torah in hand. Would you?
