Boston Globe Story About Elizabeth Warren Legal Work Fails to Mention Lack of Law License
NewsBusters ^ | September 24, 2012 | P.J. Gladnick

The Boston Globe has published a story by Michael Levenson about Elizabeth Warren defending her asbestos lawsuit legal work which is most notable by what it does not mention: her lack of a license to practice law in Massachusetts. As revealed by Professor William Jacobson of Legal Insurrection, Warren has no license to practice law in that state:

Warren is not licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. Warren’s name does not turn up on a search of the Board of Bar Overseers attorney search website (searches just by last name or using Elizabeth Herring also do not turn up any relevant entries).

Having also worked for a university for three decades, I can assure you that Harvard rules likely included notification of outside activities.

Universities are notoriously protective of two things: Its intellectual property, and the potential for legal liability.

I’d find it extremely unlikely that she would not have been required to disclose those activities and to obtain approval....

Just sayin’

Practicing law without a license is against the law, like practicing medicine without one. She should be disbarred.

Several of the comments do bring it up. The first comment of all does, by me (as raccoonradio09)

Please clarify: Did she appear in court as the legal representative of a party? Or was she part of a ‘legal team’ like so many paralegals, investigators, etc.? If the former is true, wouldn’t it be also the duty of the court to verify her bona fides?

lawyers take pride in how good they can lie in their ability to convince people their lies are weightier than the truth. The really good lawyer liars are destined to become politicians and we all know too well the results of that. Countries such as the US are being conquered from the inside. As we watch, the obozo and the democrats are accomplishing what Russia, China, Japan and Germany could never do using all their weapons of war. Is obozo really that good or are we Americans just that stupid?

She can’t be disbarred. She resigned her membership to the bar last week if the reports I read were correct.

But she is an Indian and a Hah-vahd law professor...I thought that excused her from having to jump through all those hoops like the rest of us plebes.

Warren is not licensed to practice law in Massachusetts

Since she is a CHEOKEE, maybe she practice laws on the Massachusetts Cherokee land and you don't need a license. /s

Squaw Saying BULL is making this election fun!!

Among the many cases Professor Jacobson cited, where she appears on the filing, she argued at least one of them.

Additional court cases in which Warren used her Cambridge address include Matter of Cajun Elec. Power Co-op., Inc., 150 F.3d 503 (5th Cir. 199i8)(“Elizabeth Ann Warren, Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA, for Southwestern Elec. Power Co.”) and Matter of P.A. Bergner & Co., 140 F.3d 1111 (7th Cir. 1998)(“Elizabeth Warren (argued), Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA”).

Here's another odd thing: since Granny Warren's defenders are claiming she's all set - she only represents clients at the US Supreme Court - how come she was also the recipient of the "prestigious" Lelia J. Robinson Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts in 2009?

As far as I can see, that's an award for wommin attorneys practicing law in MA.

Thank you for the additional info. Going by some of the other threads on the topic that I’ve read since, I’ll believe she was breaking the rules - but she’ll weasle her way out of it with the aid of fellow lawyers and judges...
