Anonymous gives Philadelphia the middle finger
The Daily Caller ^ | 9/24/2012 | Josh Peterson

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania recently caught the attention of the hacktivist collective Anonymous when the city government targeted a businessman’s attempt to clean up downtown trash.

The city owns a vacant lot overrun with weeds and debris, adjacent to Ori Feibush’s coffeeshop. After years of battling with the city over the eyesore, Feibush took it upon himself to clean it up. He spent at least $20,000 of his own money to remove 40 tons of trash and renovate the property — a project Anonymous claims would have cost Philadelphia taxpayers $1.5 million.

The city is threatening Feibush with legal action for trespassing and “endangering the public,” although its lot is now complete with cherry trees, park benches, gravel and a cemented sidewalk.

Feibush documented his struggle on his blog, PleaseFixPhilly.com.

Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority executive director Ed Covington said in a press conference Friday that “distortion” about the property has clouded public discussion. He also claimed Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority crews — not Feibush – cleaned up the lot.

Anonymous weighed in on Feibush’s side Friday, drawing attention to the story through a press release on Pastebin and a YouTube video.

“This incompetence and abuse of power clearly shows that We The People need to take action and pay the ‘City of Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority’ and Councilman Kenyatta Johnson a visit,” said the hacktivists, announcing operations ‘#OpPRA’ and ‘OpPhillyGovTrash’ against them.

“For seeking to take unwarranted punitive action against this small business owner, a member of the 99%, you have gathered the attention of Anonymous,” said the group. “This is not something you wish to do.”

“We demand you immediately retract all claims of wrong doing by Mr Feibush and that you seek to arrange amicable compensation for his expenses incurred while doing YOUR job,” Anonymous continued. “Failure to do so is a terribly foolish move, and will not go unpunished. You have been warned.”

Feibush is willing to pay the city more than $50,000 for the property in an upcoming sale, reported KYW-TV3 in Philadelphia. The city sold a nearby lot for just $500 several years ago. Councilman Johnson bought a home on that lot.

“Anonymous can only presume that a few government officials and contractors are butthurt because they aren’t getting their kickbacks this year, due to this benevolent ‘trespasser,’ the hacktivists said, theorizing that the city was hoping to drive down the property value and then “develop it for a profit.”

Feibush told reporters he was contacted Thursday evening by someone from Anonymous. As soon as he learned of the threat, he contacted local authorities.

“I have no idea who they are,” he told Philadelphia’s WCAU-TV10. “We made it a point to immediately reach out to authorities the moment we received any word about it.”

If governments push harder with the corruption, this kind of stuff will happen.

For once I agree with Anonymous.

Make Philly and these crooks in office there rue several days.

I hope they take the whole city down, and clean out these crooks’ bank accounts to boot.

One important question is ... What condition was the adjacent property in when the coffeshop operation started?

It could be that the "You cannot move up to a nuisance" policy holds in that area.

If it wasn't a mess at that time, then my guess is there's a legitimate claim against the city.

"For once I agree with Anonymous."

Me too, but when terrorists harass bad people, they are still terrorists.

Thanks markomalley.

I don’t like “Anonymous”, but am glad there’s publicity about Filthadelpha’s corrupt lying city regime.

What is the normal average logical citizen to do?

Official Corruption everywhere, insanity in cyberspace using bully tactics.

One day the average sane guy will simply laugh while it all burns.

.... and the world goes to the nutcases, one side or the other.

/sigh.

This businessman is the government. The government is the citizens, not the entitled parasites who sit in official bureaucracy.

Government is only effective when the elected leaders fear the populace.

Without rules, even ones that make no sense, we become animals like in Lord of the Flies. We have to believe in them even if they make things worse, or the whole system dies,

Cleaning up that area may have hurt someone. Lose an eye or something.

Yeah, I saw it.

Mayor Thugnutter and the City are pissed because this private citizen took it upon himself to do the job they’re supposed to be doing.

I’m on his side totally. Having grown up in North Philly, I’ll all too familiar with abandoned and ruined properties, trash-strewn lots and the city doing it’s usual due diligence of incompetence and inaction - unless their interests are directly involved and/or affected.

I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of that toilet of a city.

Years of Democrat-run admins have destroyed it. Now, you have the minority greivance mongers running things (”Da Bruthas and Sistas are in chaj NOW! Ya hear? Da Bruthas and Sistas are in chaj!!!” - John Street)

I know little about that City, NYC I am familiar with as have relatives there.

I heard on Cable that Boomberg has the NYC public schools giving out abortion pills to girls. even though their parents are not allowed to give them aspirin to bring to school without a note.

I havent see that story here yet, or checked it out.

“...Boomberg has the NYC public schools giving out abortion pills to girls. ...”

You get what you’re willing to put up with.

If parents don’t show up en masse outside his office screaming and raising hell, well...what else can you expect.

Even worse, some parents just don’t give a rat’s ass, and it shows in the kids.

Libs will be libs as long as no one pushes back and knocks them on their ass from time to time.

Bloomberg is the quintessential liberal fascist POS.

“...I know little about that City,...”

It’s the same as any other big city, with all of the same Democrat and liberal RINO - created problems.
