Reason For Today's Unemployment Rate Plunge: Part-Time Jobs Surge
ZeroHedge ^ | 10/5/2012 | Tyler Durden

We already noted the absolutely stunning surge in reported Household Survey jobs which "added" 873,000 jobs, or the most since 2003 and the second most in the past decade, which was just a little bit off the Household Survey used in the monthly NFP jobs changes, which came at 114,000, or about 8 times less. But what was the reason for this epic jump in Household survey jobs? Simple, and those who have read our series on America's transition to a part-time worker society know the answer. The reason is that the number of part-time people employed for economic reasons soared by 582,000 to 8,613,000, the most since October 2011, and the largest one month jump since February 2009....

I have seen a surge of patients in my practice being approved for Social Security Disability. No doubt that 0bama has put the word out to the bureaucrats to approve as many applicants as possible in order to keep people off the workforce stats.

Yup, a part-time employment “recovery.”

And since July 2010, more people have gone on disability than have dropped off of unemployment.

Charts here:

Yeah...they took all that coerced semi-testimony from Walmart, Kohls, Macy’s et al about Christmas part-time hiring plans and extrapolated that to good paying full-time statistics to use before the election....

If this O’bastard is reelected, we won’t hear any more about his troublesome ‘unemployment’ mess any more.

My daughter’s boyfriend was looking for a job and just got a part-time seasonal job. Guess he helped Obama’s numbers.

The unemployment rate is down because the suicide rate is up.

I can’t disagree. Every burger joint and grocery store within eyeshot has the shingle out for part-time help. Likely can’t get minimum wage people now that Barry has waived the work requirement for welfare.

LOL! And I'm sure they'll lower it again to 6.3% due to the rise in coal stock prices, or for some other bogus reason, come the 2nd presidential debate.

I used to use government statistics regularly in my consulting practice. Now I know they can no longer be trusted. If they're faking the unemployment statistics and the CPI, I have to wonder what else they're faking.

Actually, there should be less part time jobs what with summer jobs being phased out.

582,000? Try 953,000

Part time for economic reasons +582
Slack work or business conditions +306
Could only find part-time work +65
Part time for noneconomic reasons -260

I was working part-time at a library. My library director asked if I was a “part time person”. I answered, “No, I’m a person all the time. But I work here part time.”

Yes, I did keep my job.
