U.S. troops 'confused' about Afghanistan strategy

Ex-Reagan official: 'If you think your partner may kill you, there's something wrong'

Scores of U.S. troops have been killed by supposed allies within the Afghan military and police forces. These green-on-blue murders prompted the Pentagon to suspend joint patrols. Retired U.S. Marine Bing West, an author and former assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs in the Reagan administration, has been embedded with U.S. troops in Afghanistan on many occasions and just returned from going on a series of patrols.

He told WND’s Greg Corombos there really isn’t more that can be done to screen the Afghans going on these patrols, so our current strategy seems pretty pointless.

“I just don’t know what we’re doing anymore,” said West. “If your degree of trust has gone away, I don’t know what you’re accomplishing when people tell me that we’re partnering. If you think your partner may kill you, there’s something wrong with this as a strategy.”

West said it’s time to close up shop and let the Afghans fend for themselves.

“We have come to the end of what we can do with our conventional troops in the field,” he said.

“We should quietly accelerate bringing them home. We should basically say to the Afghan leaders at every level, ‘Look, we’ve had it with you as a country. We do not trust you. We believe many of you continue to be corrupt. And if you end up swinging from telephone poles, it’s because you screwed up.’”

West said troops are confused about the strategy in Afghanistan, and there is a very real dread that the U.S. is just running out the clock until the withdrawal takes place in 2014.

“President Obama should never, never have come out and said, ‘Well I’m gonna send some troops in there, but

Another quote:

“I think President Obama did a great disservice to our country by leaving so abruptly from Iraq and causing chaos when he left that way and now saying he’s going to do the same thing in Afghanistan,” he said. “I do believe that we have to leave, but we don’t need to trumpet it from the top of the roof.”

It isn’t that Barry’s FP is wrong. It’s that it’s incomprehensible.

We should never have gone into Afghanistan.
Nobody has ever won a war there since the time of Alexander the Great.
We should have just bombed them into oblivion and been done with it. Just let the world know that if you kill 3,000 of our citizens then expect to have 300,000 of your own snuffed out. It’s not like anyone will be upset with us. They hate us to start; they will never be our friends and we don’t want to consider them friends.
I am perfectly OK with the world fearing us. That would be a good thing.

Obama wants to lose. His sympathies, such as they are, are with the Muslim terrorists on the other side. He just doesn’t want to get blamed for it.

Maybe it’s time to call in his “foreign policy expert,” Joe Biden. Isn’t that what all the media were telling us back in 2008? Obama picked Biden for his foreign policy expertise?

Dear Soldiers; take care of one another. Never let your guard down. It is hard work to hump the hills, but stay alert! You must come back to us alive. We need you. God bless, and goddamn Obama for not caring.

[West said troops are confused about the strategy in Afghanistan. . .]

It’s about preserving one of the world’s rapidly disappearing Iron Age societies.

‘If you think your partner may kill you, there’s something wrong’

In addition to our Iraqi and Afghani “partners,” add the Muzzies in our own ranks, like the guy with the grenade in the tent during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the workplace violence at Fort Hood.

Foxes in hen houses - that’s what you get when you don’t have the guts to be clear who the enemy is.

They have right to be concerned over the strategy because there is none.

The only thing Obama has for Afghanistan is trying to figure out how many Muslim votes it will cost him if he does something wrong there, and whether he can figure out how to let in foreign donations from the Taliban and Al Quada over the internet.

The other half of his strategy there is a ridiculous set of ROEs that are tantamount to murder of our troops.
