LA City Council committee OKs ID plan for immigrants - (Library Cards now Valid ID)
ABC-TV Los Angeles ^ | Oct. 16, 2012 | Darsha Phillips

A Los Angeles City Council committee approved a plan Tuesday that would allow Los Angeles city libraries to issue identification cards to undocumented residents.

It's the first step in a long process to get identification cards to illegal immigrants and other Los Angeles residents. The city has 90 days to write up a proposal and a plan to implement the proposal.

The idea is to turn Los Angeles city library cards into a city services card -- a form of identification that Los Angeles' estimated 300,000 undocumented immigrants could use to open bank accounts, use as a debit card and access city services. The card would include the user's name, address and photo and would be issued through libraries.

San Francisco has a similar system in place, and many banks and businesses there accept the cards.

Proponents of the city services card say giving illegal immigrants access to bank accounts will cut down on pay day lenders gouging undocumented residents with high fees.

Great idea...send 'em to those evil banks who will steal and cheat them blind because they don't speak English!!

So now that librarians will be “documenting” them, can we go back to calling them illegal aliens again?

La La Land is aware that you need a photo ID, and proof of address to get a library card?

Who says the banks have to accept a library card as valid ID? Is there a photo on the library card?

Gee. How interesting.

When 187 was voted into law - by the electorate - all the Mexican Reconquista agitators ran around screaming "Ju can't make an eeemmeeegration law! Only de federal goberment can!!"

And the federal district court under Mariana Pfaelzer agreed.

So, uh, what changed? How come L.A. can now make an immigration law?

Funny how the story mutates.

As the old INS attorney's used to say...the fight isn't over until the alien wins.

Yeah. Whatta laugh. The whole thing is comical: since they are the "undocumented", let's just give them documents!!

And the Cowardly Lion gets a medal.

The answer to most of this stupid stuff is for legal citizens to overwhelm the stupid ‘system’ they put in place. Legal Los Angeles residents should use their library cards to open accounts, etc. If the banks had enough people doing it they would stop since it would essentially be a loser and a free for all.

Cool! I think I’m going to use my library card as a concealed carry permit. My university ID should also make a nice Class A CDL.

I saw it. Gag me...

I guess having less than 50% of the adult males in the city of Los Angeles who can read and write well enough to conduct business in English, isn’t enough...

we need to do to immigration what FL did for the second amendment.

If a local government or state attemps to pass their own immigration rules then that politician is PERSONALLY criminally in trouble.

We also need to remove the discretion from the oval office and justice dept.

Exactly what I was thinking.

And when the bank refuses to open an account for me, I’ll be able to call my (Latina) lawyer and tell her to sue them...

News Flash! -2013

Los Angeles Library System will only shelve books in
Spanish. If a citizen wishes a library card, he/she must demonstrate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the spanish language,

“A Los Angeles City Council committee approved a plan Tuesday that would allow Los Angeles city libraries to issue identification cards to undocumented residents.”

Serious question:
Does it really matter to anyone outside California what they do there anymore?
If so, why?

I no longer consider CA to be a part of “America”. Yes, it’s still attached to the rest of the country. But California is rapidly transforming itself into an entity that “is not like us”, no more than Obama is like a traditional American.

My conclusion: let California do whatever it wishes. But do nothing to help the debacle that’s coming there. Assist the sane folks and businesses to escape and leave the rest to stew in their own juices.

If you’re a Californian and you’re reading this, sorry. But if you’re also conservative and a realist, you can see the fate of the state even better than those of us who don’t live there. Knowing as much, why do you stay?

How bout making their medical Marijuana card an official ID as well.

That should cover about 90% of California’s population.

I moved from N Calif to Nevada in early 2005.

I went to local state bank to open new account.

Because of the terms of the Patriot Act, I had to provide:

An embossed certified birth certificate from whee I was born. NOT a copy!

2 Credit cards

My Social Security card—NOT a copy!

One other form of ID. I used my Arabian Horse Registry Owner’s card, which was issued in the 1980’s.

I opened my first bank account when I was 17 and already working full time. I was 65 when I open this Nevada account.

I was told by the bank officer that they would NOT open any account for anyone without a birth certificate, etc, not even a child.

I am beyond pissed that San Francisco and Los Angeles & who knows who else are violating the Patriot Act with illegal immigrants/intruders and doing so openly.

I was born in the USA. I have worked in the USA all of my life.

IMO, these actions are pure treasonous and a severe detriment to the security of the USA.
