Gingrich to Newsmax: Republicans Must Hold Line on Taxes

Republicans in Congress should be putting options on the table to raise government revenues as part of fiscal cliff negotiations, but raising taxes should not be one of those options, Newt Gingrich said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV.

The GOP has given up on about 40 percent of the electorate in the last couple of elections, he also said, and needs to focus on inclusion of not just immigrants, but on states where Democrats automatically expect to win.

Every time Democrats negotiate a budget deal that includes tax increases and spending cuts, taxes go up but in most cases—such as with Ronald Reagan’s tax deal with Congress in 1982 and George H.W. Bush’s deal in 1990—but nothing is ever cut from the budget, Gingrich explained. …

This is a losing proposition. Nobody gives a rip about the richest 1%. Republicans will look foolish scrapping everything for them.

Not only do they not make cuts, they turn around and start asking for more tax increases.

If we could keep Newt’s mouth shut and limit his appearance on TV, I say we should make him head of the GOP. He’s a visionary but carries some baggage and unsightly flaws.

If only we could limit him to Sunday morning shows 3-4 times a year he would be great, but the MSM loves to give him rope and he’ll eventually say something ingeniously unfathomably stupid.

Newt is not and never has been a spokesman for conservatives.

He will sell us out like so many RINOs have.
No Newt-No way.

What would happen if congress simply slashed spending on each and every program and each and every agency...including entitlements, the judiciary, and their own pay and perks...by 10%? 10% across the board, no exceptions anywhere inside fedgov. Then do the same thing next fiscal year.

I have no idea and they won’t. If the yearly increases are more than 10%, so they would call those a “spending cut.”

And I still stand by my post that was pulled: I don’t need to hear anyone say that “we don’t want a lot of wealth created and passed along from generation to generation” who the hell do these people think they are....this is America and there should be NO death tax. Period

Newt is right. They should not increase taxes on the producers at any level of the work force because it will not stop. 40-50% taxes. can you image the death tax! Who will want to continue to work. The rich are paying more than their fair share now. Why do they need to be punished because they made it and redistribute their wealth. people can be so lame and contradictory. Which way do want it-one way for dems and another for repubs. Newt knows how to get things done in the government. They should take him under their wing and listen to him. I don’t want to punish the producers so they will expand their companies. I am not jealous of them, either.

“A static defense is slow suicide.” - Napoleon Bonaparte

Instead of “holding the line on taxes”, which means that Republicans *lose* everywhere else *but* taxes, instead the Republicans have a brief moment in which they can attack.

They can refuse to pass any more continuing resolutions until the Democrats give them what they want.

They can refuse to stop sequestration until the Democrats give them what they want.

They can refuse to raise the debt limit until the Democrats give them what they want.

This is *exactly* what the Democrats have done, and would do, to Republicans, were their roles reversed. And yet the only thing we are hearing from Republican leaders is that they “will hold the line on taxes.”

Phooey. This achieves nothing!

Why not refuse to fund the EPA? Refuse to fund the DHS?

If Harry Reid does like he has done for THE PAST FOUR YEARS, and refuse to let the senate even consider a budget, then either the Republicans continue to act like whipped, co-dependent puppies, or they can attack Harry Reid with a snarl, and say,

“NO, HARRY REID! YOU DO YOUR JOB AND YOU MAKE THE SENATE PASS A BUDGET, TOO, OR ELSE YOU DO NOT GET ANOTHER THIN DIME FROM US!”

Seriously, the Republicans leaders know all this, yet all they do is snivel and promise the very least thing they can, hoping that Republicans and conservatives will let them get away with it.

Grow a spine you wimps.

I don’t give a shiite about the content of the article. The lard assed adulterer is already talking about amnesty for illegals and all of the ballots are not counted.
P.S. The last time I looked FR was not homogeneous.
Speak just for your self and not for FR.

If people want to donate 40-50-65% of their income to the Government or to whatever..knock yourselves out.. Pour that right into that welfare state bucket. me, no thanks. I am tired of helping people growing the government for those who are lazy and come up with some silly reason that cannot work. Obama is doing wealth/income redistribution.

It's not the spine that's missing, it's the core. Reagan had a core. This crop of Republicans have no core, that's why they're so willing to compromise.

It should be evident to all by now that, for the House to gain any power or influence over events, they must first re-gain their spending authority.

For that to happen, they must take a stand along the lines suggested. They should pass budget that they believe in...send it to the Senate...and leave town. Pass a note to Harry that, when he's ready to pass a budget thru the Senate and abide by the decision of the Conference Committee, you'll come back to town.

But, until then, no business gets done.

Whoa...look at you.. perfection cast those stones..

Newt told us during the debates how to work towards citizenship. IT WAS THE SAME AS WHAT ROMNEY WAS SAYING! I think Mitt copied Newt’s ideas.
