Election over, administration unleashes new rules
Newsday/AP ^ | 12-13-12 | Matthew Daly

For months, federal agencies and the White House have sidetracked dozens of major regulations that cover everything from power plant pollution to workplace safety to a crackdown on Wall Street.

The rules had been largely put on hold during the presidential campaign as the White House sought to quiet Republican charges that President Barack Obama was an overzealous regulator who is killing U.S. jobs.

But since the election, the Obama administration has quietly reopened the regulations pipeline.

In recent weeks, the Environmental Protection Agency has proposed rules to update water quality guidelines for beaches and other recreational waters and deal with runoff from logging roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, meanwhile, has proposed long-delayed regulations requiring auto makers to include event data recorders -- better known as "black boxes" -- in all new cars and light trucks beginning in 2014.

*snip*

Obama has spent the past year "punting" on a slew of job-killing regulations that will be unleashed in a second term, said Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla. With the election over, it's now "full speed ahead" for federal rules limiting greenhouse gas emissions, requiring cleaner gasoline and putting controls on drilling for oil and natural gas, said Inhofe, the senior Republican on the Senate Environment Committee.

"Under an Obama EPA that has earned a reputation for abuse, American families will be subjected to a regulatory onslaught that will drive up energy prices, destroy millions of jobs and further weaken the economy," he wrote in a 14-page report on expected EPA regulations for 2013. The report predicts an influx of regulations that "spell doom for jobs and economic growth."

I smell a new industry in the offing...

And I will not buy a vehicle with one. (Spin your tires in snow, and the acceleration recorded will rival a cat shot, the deceleration a trap.)

I believe you will have no choice after a while. This will drive a number of folks over to the used car market for the next twenty to thirty years. I also suspect that a new tech training school will open which trains folks on how to remove or screw up the black box.

What would eventually happen, if we all just played along....is that your insurance company would get ahold of the data and begin to connect the dots. Aggressive drivers would be readily identified and forced into paying $8k a year in car insurance (which they richly deserve to pay), and the soft-pedal guys would start to pay $200 a year.

And given the typical Government Engineering standards. . . .they’ll be hacked in no time, allowing you to plug in a “governor” module and upload code that will not allow recording of events outside of normal tolerances. . .

Who could have possibly seen that coming?? (/s)

If that peckerwood tries to 'nationalize' the oil patch, I quit.

He did say that he didn't need congress to raise taxes,
so I suspect his next move will be fees and fines of all sorts.

Obama doesn't need no stinking Congress. And the Republican Congress sucks anyway
because they will not stand up to the Democrats. Bunch of weasly pussies.

Still an increase for me. It isn't whether you are soft or hard on the pedal, it is a matter of driving appropriately for the situation. Sometimes, mashing the throttle pedal can be the difference between life or death, sometimes the brake.

Both have kept me from getting killed.

If whoever is reading the data wasn't there, they can't know.

Last thing I need is the stinking government backseat driving. You won't find GPS in any of my vehicles, either.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ...

I love Christmas lights.
They remind me of the people who voted for Obama.
They all hang together; half of them don't work, and the ones that do, aren't all that bright.
For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

Last month, I was offered a type of black box thing by Allstate, in return for a discount. It would monitor my driving for the 6 month period. I turned it down.

It is incumbent upon the honorable craftsman, to be aware
of whether or not the work of his hands and mind are being used toward an evil end — and to act, or NOT, accordingly.

What if the clerks who empowered Adolph Hitler... simply, hadn’t?

Well, good thing the ol’ ‘85 Ranger is still ticking happily along then, isn’t it.

I’ll ride a bicycle before I buy one of his Majesty’s failed-out err, bailed-out corporatist fascist mobiles.

Up theirs.

Nice of them to decide to finally grow some journalistic cajones and start reporting on this crap AFTER the election. SIGH... but I doubt that it would have made a difference to the Obama-gimme voters.
