Philadelphia Mayor Calls NRA's Armed School Guard Plan a 'Dumb-Ass Idea'

Nutter, a staunch advocate of gun control, called the idea proposed by NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre a “dumb-ass idea.”

Ok, I'll play along Nutter - and I think the name fits, but lets just see... I suppose if armed guards at our schools is a "dumb-ass idea" then you have one that is much better, right?

Although before you put your foot in your mouth (again) publicly, lets just take "gun free zones" off the table. Don't even bother putting that idea forward. You see, that idea has been tried, and has utterly failed. Every mass shooting event in the US in the last 20 years has been in an allegedly "gun free zone" that in-fact proved not to be so "gun free." So if you put forth the idea of continuing the "gun free zone" idiocy at schools - well now, that is demonstrably a dumb-ass idea since it has led to dozens of deaths. You can't be that stupid or evil, can you?

Oh, and you do realize your own blatant hypocrisy - opposing the idea of armed guards to protect our children while enjoying the protection of armed guards for yourself and your family. No-one will take you seriously (maybe ever) but at least until you eschew your own armed security. After all, if it is allegedly good enough for our children, then it must be good enough for you and your family.

“We need to ban assault weapons. We need to ban the high-capacity clips and magazines. We need serious background information system upgrade," the Democrat said Wednesday.

Nutter, nut-job, whack-job... Whatever your name is, do you understand history? Or is that just some class you cut in High School? Every place that has enacted strict firearms regulation up to and including outright bans on firearms has seen a sharp increase in violent crime - include firearms related crimes. Do you like crime? Do you like making defenseless victims out of your constituents?

What is an "assault weapon" anyway? A rifle or handgun with a few features? Guess what, that is a meaningless media meme made up to scare the public. We've tried banning "assault weapons" for 10 years - made no statistical difference in crime or firearms crime. None. So what you're proposing is demonstrably a worthless "solution" to the perceived issue. You're not very good at your job, are you? Proposing solutions you know to be ineffective. Apparently what you need is an ignorance ban in your office.

Oh, and a magazine capacity limit is equally useless. You see, if you create large pools of defenseless potential victims with your "gun free zones" then an assailant has all the time in the world to change magazines repeatedly and keep shooting.

Nutter, you're either ignorant of the facts or maybe evil and/or insane yourself - wanting more victims. Or maybe you're just using people like cattle to advance a political agenda - which in my book puts you right back in the evil & insane bucket.

Got a link? I’m just curious to see what they look like. I’ve had a bugger of a time getting 5 rounds of 8mm into my Mauser. I’d imagine the newer stripper clips are plastic?

Eliminate the gun free zones and call it good. Make the potential killers roll the dice on whether they’ll face opposition.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. These "gun free zones" really piss me off. They should just be honest and call them "resistance free zones for criminals and disgruntled ex-employees"....sheesh.

Also, as far as the armed guards at schools, I think it should be something like the air marshal program (except not federalized) where the armed guard "fits in" like any of the teachers/administrators. Heck, even give them a "job" to help keep the cover. Not knowing whether there is a marshal at the school would be a nice little deterrent to someone like Lanza.

The WW2 M1 Garand rifle uses an 8-round double stack clip.

“No business being in any profession other than ditch digging - check.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Having grown up on the farm and done some ditch digging I can tell you that in reality it takes some degree of intelligence to do a proper job of ditch digging. I think it is definitely beyond the capability of the average liberal. Let’s face it, if he had a brain he wouldn’t be a liberal.

You might be able to teach one to dig a post hole but placing three in a straight line at proper spacing would be way too much for a liberal.

Sorry Nutter, but thinking you are safe in a victim disarmament zone is pretty much the pinnacle of dumb-assesness.

The NRA may be off base on this one. I say “may”, because we don’t really have any particulars yet on what their program will entail. They mentioned armed guards, but are these “guards” just trained staff members with carry permits?

I would be 100% against putting a TSA styled organization in charge of school security. That is the WRONG way to do this.

I guess we’ll see once they have actual details up. Everything else is speculation at this point.

I personally think janitors and maintenance men would make ideal security personnel. They know their way around and tend to be pretty invisible when they choose to be.

It sounds horrible, but I can’t help but wonder if these socialists are so violently opposed to protecting children because they secretly hope for another massacre or two to further their cause.

They don’t object to men with guns protecting their own lives...but they seem to put schoolchildren on the sacrificial altar with a neon “gun free zone” sign overhead to attract psychos far and wide.

At what point are parents who knowingly send their children into a zone of acknowledged danger and vulnerability, guilty of neglect?

Yes! I think there are a lot of current school district employees that would fit the bill whether it be janitors or perhaps a counselor or even a principal/vice principal. Just make sure they have adequate training and an extensive background check. I would go a step further and require psychological testing every so often to be sure a screw hasn't come loose.

If you view this idea through the lens of "paid volunteer" athletic coaches, this makes even more sense. A lot of these athletic coaches are also teachers but take on the additional responsibility and are paid accordingly.

The track coach could put that “starter” pistol to good use.

So my obvious question and statement would be:

What is worse?

Having a dumb-ass idea...

or

Being a stupid-ass politician?

Your comments are welcome, and encouraged.

says the man running the city with one of the worst crime rates in the country due to being a “gun-free” zone. Oh, and if he thinks that guns are evil, then he should disarm his body guards.

They are steel and brass,

Just do a google search for M16 stripper clips or SKS stripper clips.

I don’t have trouble using clips in my mil spec bolt guns.

I have an ammo can full of brass stripper clips for Mausers, so I know what you’re talking about. I figured more modern variations might be a hard plastic.
