The announcement that the Pentagon would scale back defense contracting amid massive budget cuts was unsettling but expected news for some contractors who have already left the industry amid the uncertainty that has loomed over them for nearly 18 months.

Of all the activities the federal government engages in, I think Defense is the most legitimate and the most important. But, having said that, anyone should know that waste, fraud, and abuse suck away far too much money. We COULD spend a lot less and get just as much bang for the buck. But we’d have to make some smart decisions ... and we probably won’t.
Believe me, if I could find a decent job in the private sector I would leave my job in a heart beat.
I wouldnt worry about it too much
it doesnt matter what it is or how important it is, seems like if you aint one of the major good 'ol boy posters they will just move it to the backroom closets right away anyway.
I posted one about radical islam infiltrating the Obama administration, it got about 20 replys in the first ten seconds and they hid it right away so why even bother, it seemed like big news to me, even came from a credible source [/cynical attitude]
I just enjoy hanging out here at FR talking to myself
Winner: Lockheed-Martin. This company is on the White House's good side, having agreed to delay layoff notices to employees ahead of the election.
Loser: Boeing. This company will be targeted by the administration and lose contracts for daring to stand against the unions.
99 weeks unemployment
More money for junk research
Buying up more land to put in wildlife reserves
Massive growth both in numbers and pay rates of federal government
Continued war in Iraq and Afghanistan
Lots of money given to other nations to develop THEIR infrastructure, oil drilling, energy resources
Grants to prop up bloated school districts that should instead cut administration
Good luck with that! He has already screwed the private sector big time.
BTW- like you screen name. Check my tagline.
Romancing the Drones

The SR-71 and the U-2 were conceived, designed, tested and manufactured in one year. Lockheed did this because they kept the military out. I can also tell you that the contracts didnt contain the ridiculous clauses about small business set asides, green regulations and other non-defense political clauses. We could operate the Pentagon with 30-40% less money if every Congressman didnt get to diddle in every contract.
I think defense is worthy and necessary. It’s hard, however, to call 99% of what the feds do under that name actual “defense.”
