“The State Department has been extraordinarily wary of allowing drones to operate in the region, fearful of criticism that the United States is trying to militarize parts of Africa as it steps up its campaign to hunt down Qaeda-linked extremists in Somalia, as well as those responsible for the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.”

So according to the NY Times Barry and Hillary have learned nothing from Benghazi, it appears. Trying to avoid militarizing “parts of Africa” is what left the POTUS’s hands tied because the DOD (claims to have) had no assets near Benghazi.

How do you militarize a place that is already a shooting gallery? Proof again that the State Department is always at least a day late and a dollar short when it comes to understanding a situation and making appropriate recommendations.

yep... I’m betting Obama, as soon as he got in office, actually reduced our capabilities there at AFRICOM instead of beefing them up once he got in. I recall one article which referred to AFRICOM as a ghost command.
