War on Easter? Schools, Cities Planning Another Round of ‘Spring Egg Hunts’
Townhall.com ^ | March 21, 2013 | Kyle Olson

In our increasingly politically-correct society, Christmas isn’t the only holiday too hot to handle for school districts. Easter, another holiday rooted in Christian faith, is now being marginalized by governmental entities.

School districts and cities across America are holding “Spring egg hunts” and similar events, frequently omitting the word “Easter” from calendars and public announcements. Consider these:

• On March 16th, Flat Rock Elementary School in Anderson, South Carolina is holding a “Community Egg Hunt.”
West Shore School District will be holding its “PTO Egg Hunt” on March 16th.
• New York’s East Meadow Schools will be holding its “Spring Egg Hunt” on March 19.
• The Prospect Heights Public Library District in Illinois is holding its “Spring Egg Hunt” on March 26th.
• California’s Manhattan Beach Unified School District has its “Spring Egg Hunt” in late March.
• The City of Upland, California will hold its “Spring Egg Hunt” March 30.

There are many, many more examples.

Does it matter that they’re detaching “Easter” from “egg hunts”? After all, the original significance of the day has nothing to do with bunnies, candy or hunting painted eggs.

It does, because “culturally sensitive” bureaucrats are further secularizing America by wiping Christian names off traditional community events.

Like Christmas, Easter has become increasingly commercialized. But by continuing to embrace the Christian rooting, we’re remembering the real reason for the holidays. As secular progressives remove the meaning, they’re becoming nothing more than Hallmark holidays and we’re becoming an increasingly ungrounded society.

Since when did an egg hunt have anything to do with Easter in the first place?

The “public school” is the Bus Ministry of the State Church of Humanism.

The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.

The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.

It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is collectivist.

It is hypocritical to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. Children do not trust hypocrites, so this will undermine your own authority, let alone influence, with your children.

Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.

To understand the content and compass of modern education, see ...
http://www.scribd.com/doc/54400125/Change-Agents-in-the-Schools-Barbara-Morris-1979

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.

Nobody loves your children more than you do.

Nobody can teach your children better than you can.

Nobody knows your children better than you do.

Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.

If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.

DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!

Especially not with your own children.

And DO NOT TAKE GOVERNMENT “EDUCATION” MONEY!

He that pays the piper calls the tune, and that’s especially true for any government entitlement program.

Now I’m confused - does the author want egg hunts with Easter or not? The point is a bit muddled.

This doesn’t bother me. Bunnies and egg hunts have nothing to do with the resurrection of Christ anyway. Never have understood all that hubbub.

Good question. It doesn't and neither does the Easter Bunny.

The Resurrection of our Lord is real reason that has to do with Easter.

Proves little else other than to show how easy it is for weird practices to meld together to become religions.

Exactly! To complain about an egg hunt is insane!!!! We have huge issues going on in this country and this is what they have resorted too. Lord, I hope we begin prioritizing again. The difference between Christmas and Easter is that Christmas is a Federal Holiday....Easter is NOT!!!!

Yes he does want egg hunts with Easter. What disturbs him is the war on Easter. Please note:

Notice the word Easter is missing

Censoring the religous references in our holidays gives atheists and non religous people a chance to party and shop and buy stuff. Gotta feel for atheists....no holidays

But when they talk about a “Spring Egg Rolls” it just makes we want to order Chinese

So what? Jesus doesn’t have anything to do with Easter Eggs anyway.

They can run, but they can’t hide from God. :)

It is a fun way to express the concept of “New Life” to children. To engage and teach children, you need to pass on traditions and ceremonies which have an element of excitement and fun to encourage the Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Love.

To not use imagination-—that which is so unique to man—would be inhumane and dull and discourage the interest of children who are the most creative and imaginative. Traditions are essential in passing on culture-—it is why Marxists are trying to destroy all Christian traditions to create “faith” in the State.

As long as it aims toward the truth and belief in God and his miracles, I see no harm in using God’s Design in Nature to understand reality and Truth. Any thing can be profane, though, and public schools are just that, (and unconstitutional) and I would hate to have them “interpret” anything for my kids-—it wouldn’t happen. I don’t allow just “any” stranger to form worldview in my children (includes TV).

Who cares if the idea is a “pagan” one——all Western ideas have an element of paganism, since the Greeks were such great philosophers and used Reason—that which God gave man to distinguish us from the beast.

As the early Fathers of the Church stated.....God reveals his Truth to all in Nature. We can recognize the truth if we look for it.

People uniquely use symbols all the time since the beginning of history......it makes learning easier and more fun and understandable......eggs are such a symbol.

I don't want Godless public schools associating themselves with Easter. As a Catholic, I find it insulting. I don't need socialist, Marxist stooges in the public education systems soiling this very holy day of the Christian calender. Screw them. Easter was celebrated long before the emergence of the public education system and will be celebrated long after they eventually collapse. (I'm hoping they do!).

My school never did anything involving Easter when I was growing up. Didn’t even get a day off.

They’re not trying to “secularize” society.

They’re not trying to “censor the religious references”.

They’re trying to erase anything to do with CHRISTIANITY from the public arena.

Mention of other religions is fine, even encouraged. But don’t you dare bring up anything about those evil CHRISTIANS!!!

The Catholic Church took pagan practices and made them religious and now the secularists are making them pagan again.
