For maybe about a year... which is about how long it would take every industry that builds things, fixes things or grows things to move south. All that would be left north of the Mason Dixon line would be tax cheats, welfare bums, poverty pimps, drug addicts and perverts of various genera. All of whom would starve because there would be no real money coming into the tax coffers and whatever the North uses for currency wouldn't be worth it's weight in raw organic fertilizer.

In short a place where even you would not want to live.
Why would I hire any of your workers? They would be lazy, uneducated, expensive and just plain not worth it.
And why would I even have a business any way?
You would want to take everything I earned to support your wish list.
So businesses would close up and leave.
You would need those longer unemployment benefits.
But where would you get the money to pay them?
You could try to take them from your neighbor.
But you have no guns.

I posted before I read the entire article. I thought at first it was satire, then halfway through it made a litle sense. Then it went totally in the trash. Great hospitals, teaching colleges, museums bla bla bla.. all in blue states. What BS.The south descending into theocracy? I think not. One inconvenient factor overlooked by the author is the industrial might of the South. In 1860, the North was heavily into manufacturing while the South was agrarian. Today, the South is more industrialized than the North, has oil and coal plus the facilities to process them. It has many more chemical plants than the North.
