Who lost Texas — and Kansas and Missouri and 30-some other states?
The Hill ^ | 05/06/13 10:32 AM ET | Bernie Quigley

Raising the bar on glib, even for the Eloi at The Washington Post, former Post reporter Thomas E. Ricks includes Texas as one of the newspaper's “things to toss out” this year, along with flip-flops and Ben Bernanke.

“For decades, Texans have been clamoring about leaving the Union,” he writes. “Letting the Lone Star State secede would set a bad precedent. (See the Civil War of 1861 to 1865.) But what about expelling it instead? There is promise in that.”

Sam Houston was one of the wisest men ever to get thrown out of the governorship of Texas.

What’s the chance of Washington “expelling” Texas when so much energy and economic activity comes from there?

The people who want to live under the Constitution are the ones who should stay. The ones who don’t should go. No use having red states secede and then ask the blue states if they can have the Constitution because they aren’t using it.

Yes he was. He refused to take Texas out of the Union during the Civil War. Was ostracized for it and went to live with the Indians in OK.

After the CW he looked much wiser. But the state grew rapidly after the Occupation of the Deep South during Reconstruction.

They went GTT.

Yep, they would miss us. And if 30 states went with TX who would pay for the socialist welfare state?

NE would have to live in their own fowl nest.

let them have the blue counties... and we’ll take the red ones

oh... and they’ll have to pay an impact fee to cross the red counties, as their presence would increase the likelihood of crime

(if you tax it... you have less of it...)

We once had free states and slave states (based on race). Then the CW ended that? Or did it.

Now we still have free states and slave states, but this time it is Universal Slavery to the Nanny State.

Can the nation long endure the presence of Free States and Universal Slave States?

The last conflict over slavery was settled by war, how will this one be settled?

I think a lot of us both north and south feel the same way about states rights and preservation of the union. They don’t need to be mutually exclusive.

At this point I think Obama would like nothing more than to see America split up into multiple bite sized pieces.

The Northeast has always had it in for Texas, Way back when Bobby Kennedy was apologizing to the Mexicans for the Mexican War. Now Obama goes to Mexico and apologizing for her imposing our sovereignty on” Aztlan.” which the Mexican still think is theirs.

Sam Houston once wrote a letter to Andrew Jackson in which he said that Texas can survive without the United States but the United States cannot survive without Texas. It’s still true after 175 years.

Red states should secede, allow time for the patriots to find their way there from the blue areas (and the lefties to find their way to the blue areas), then invade the blue states.

Secession may be the only option. The idiots who keep putting liberals in office aren’t going to go away and they are not going to suddenly change their minds and become conservatives because being a conservative requires that you become knowledgeable about issues and get your information from somewhere other than Oprah and Ellen.

Agreed.

I dream every night of seeing Obozo removed from the White Hut in handcuffs.

It has been so since his first inauguration.
