Activists seek recognition of former downtown ‘Little Syria’ at the National 9/11 Memorial Museum

The area around the World Trade Center was once the center of Arab-American life in New York City. But all that remains of sprawling "Little Syria" are three buildings: a community center, a tenement building and a church. Activists from Save Washington Street are trying to have these fading memories recognized at the National September 11 Memorial Museum.

In the present atmosphere of Islam “spreading their particular love” around the globe, I have a suggestion.

Drop “the hyphen” and take your place as Americans, (since you guys are showing us that you have lived here more than one generation), then maybe we shall talk.

Indeed. Actually I think one of the reasons that there is so much confusion about Arab-American history is that they often don’t push a hyphenated identity that publicly: think about people like Darrell Issa, John H. Sununu, Selwa Roosevelt, and George Mitchell...
