Obama Can’t Be Trusted with Power
Commentary Magazine ^ | June 7, 2013 | Peter Wehner

I agree with Jonathan’s post both in terms of substance and the media response to the NSA/surveillance stories.

On the former: the PRISM program, in the right hands and used with discretion, can be justified based on the threats to America. But in the wrong hands–in executive branch hands that have abused power and punished political enemies–it has the potential to be misused. Which brings me to the current chief executive.

My views on President Obama are such that very little would surprise me in terms of the ethical lines he would cross in order to gain and maintain political power.

That may seem like an overly harsh judgment, so let me take a moment to explain what I mean. I have become convinced, based on what I would argue is the increasing weight of the evidence, that Mr. Obama is a man whose sense of mission, his arrogance and self-righteousness, and his belief in the malevolence of his enemies might well lead him and his administration to act in ways that would seem to him to be justified at the time but, in fact, are wholly inappropriate.

I would include as evidence to support my assertion the president’s routine slander of his opponents, his serially misleading statements (including flat-out falsehoods about the lethal attacks on the Benghazi consulate), the IRS scandal and the public signals the president sent to that agency over the years, the unprecedented targeting of journalists by the Department of Justice and the attorney general’s nasty little habit of misleading Congress, Mr. Obama’s unusually dishonest campaign against Mitt Romney, and his overall contempt for the rule of law. He just doesn’t think that rules should apply to him, that he is above all that. Those who see themselves as world-historical figures tend to do that.....

I still wouldn’t mind finding out where the little Kenyan was born.

Anybody who trusts that PRISM program is OK “in the right hands” is a fool. First, nothing in the Constitution says that the 4th A only applies to “bad gov’ts.” The Founders knew otherwise.

I am also reminded of those Milton Friedman interviews with Donahue where he poses the question of ‘who are these angels in gov’t who we can trust not to be greedy?’ Likewise, who will be these angels in gov’t we can trust not to abuse their power.

Let me guess what Top 10 phrases Obama will be reading from his teleprompter in the near future:

1.) Trust me ...
2.) Would I lie to you?
3.) Who are you going to believe my critics or me?
4.) Did I do that?
5.) I don’t know.
6.) Where’s Jay Carney?
7.) I’m not to blame.
8.) I would never do that ...
9.) I’m not a tyrant.
10.) It depends on what ‘it’ is in regards to your question about Reggie Love.

I just wish people would stop for a moment and consider WHY he can’t be trusted with power.

Sure, he’s a lib. That’s primary. But IF there were anyone holding him to his designated powers via THEIR DESIGNATED POWERS instead of helping him expand them, there would not BE the abuses we have seen and will yet see.

The GOP has stood idly by and LET HIM ABUSE POWER. And I challenge any fanboy to factually refute that statement.

At least Truman, LBJ and Fritz Mondale loved their country. I really don’t think the same can be said about him, do you?

Obama does love his country. He even visited his native country Kenya a few times in recent years. He’s a patriotic Islamist Kenyan.

Nope. He hates everything we stand for. Trouble is, he has lots of company. Most of the modern political class hates traditional America. Each has their own reasons. Some share his views verbatim, some with minor differences. None of which we need remaining in office or being elected to it.

And when you consider the above, Obama gets his free pass and we get excuses as to why from all but about 5 people in DC.

The GOP has soot by and let him (Obama) abuse power.

Romney backed off on the Benghazi slaughter, when it was fresh in everyone's minds and the lies were being told. The HOR "conservatives" couldn't put the 17 votes together to oust Boehner as speaker. Obamacare is still being funded. McCain isn't being recalled. There are still Republicans who don't insist that "secure the border, totally implement EVerify" isn't a first condition in the immigration reform discussion. etc

This is all an abuse of power. Enough Republicans have been voted into positions of power and have refused to stand strong for us.

I agree with you comments, however what are we going to do about it? Voting them out of office doe not seem to work.

The collective We are making excuses about our lying eyes instead of uniting under a common banner. Until people stop doing that, there can be nothing more substantive.

I want answers. What did Maxine Waters mean When she said Obama was collecting info on everything on everyone and it would be a great campaign tool in 2016.

“The President has put in place an
organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before
in life,” Representative Maxine Waters told Roland Martin on Monday.
“That’s going to be very, very powerful,” Waters said. “That database
will have information about everything on every individual on ways that
it’s never been done before and whoever runs for President on the
Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They’re going to go down with
that database and the concerns of those people because they can’t get
around it. And he’s [President Obama] been very smart. It’s very
powerful what he’s leaving in place.”
