Russia: Anime Banned as Child Pornography

MOSCOW – Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications has banned the distribution of the Japanese “hentai” cartoons. Reason for banning are 13 episodes published on the Russian social network Vkontakte, Voice of Russia reported.

Hentai is a genre of the Japanese animation (anime) which as basic elements contain erotic or pornographic scenes. First complaint on the anime Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications received in April, but at the time there were no competent experts of the cartoon evaluation available.

As the result, outside experts made an expertise and rendered the verdict: hentai is a child pornography. Analyst assessed that these animated films “exploit interest to sex”, often “in perverted form”, as well as that there is no “storyline and any cultural or historical value”.

Also, according to experts “all characters are presented as minors who participate in pornographic scenes”.

often “in perverted form”

What? Multi tentacled alien slime monsters using said tentacles to rape pre-pubescent girls isn't mainstream...outside of Japan? I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Went to Google and put Hentai in. There were some very ripe drawings. I don’t blame the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications at all.

Can’t we all agree kids are off the menu? Good grief!

The headline is misleading. Hentai is a subset of anime. Most genres of anime are not pornographic. If Hentai (i.e. “perversion”) isn’t porn; it’s as close to porn as a cartoon can get.

It’s porn. Hardest of the hardcore. I’ve been a *normal Anime) fan since the 80s. And after having seen Urotskudoji: Legend of the Overfiend, I can assure you, it is porn on every level.

The more I see what Russia is doing these days: cracking down on homosexual propaganda, now banning dirty cartoons, etc., the more I think that they are watching what is happening in the West, especially in the USA, and they are scared sh**less that it is going to spread to their country. And that’s ironic, since their covert demoralization campaign against the US is probably the primary reason we’ve gone to hell in a handbasket so quickly. I bet the KGB had no idea that their efforts would work so well.

Correct. Anime is mostly things like Pokemon. Hentai is the pornographic element.

Russia is turning out to be more conservative than America.

I mean, in this country, doesn't the Obama love of all things LGBT extend to child pornographers? Where's the tolerance?

After all, they were born that way. /s

The longtime falling Russian birth rate has not only levelled off but is now trending upward. Most children are baptized in the Orthodox church, & new churches are being built by the hundreds, presumably on the sites of those destroyed under communism.

The Duma has said to h*** with political correctness.

Ironically, Soviet propaganda for decades decried the “decadent imperialist West” with all its creature comforts & temptations. Modern Russian society does not want to go down the tubes & their political process lacks the enervating nuances and subtleties which make decisive action so difficult here.

Have to be careful, people were saying nice things about Mussolini & Hitler’s ability to “get things done” early in those regimes.

Now let’s see how the Russians are handling their Muslim problem. They’ve had a thousand years of experience already.

You're probably correct.

BTW, switch over to Bing Search now that Google is conspiring with Obama.

SCOTUS ruled that cartoons and purely photoshopped depictions are not “contraband” only stuff that was illegal in the making. I believe that the current state of the law is that this stuff is First Amendment protected. I could be wrong, but last time I checked that was the case.

“That stuff IS child porn”

Presumably you’ve seen the stuff so you have the advantage over me. However I only ask as a matter of interest how can it be “child” porn when it involves animated characters made up of ink and or computer pixels and not, you know, actual children?

I am very wary of giving governments the rights to ban things just because they don’t like it. Child pornography is a heinous crime involving criminal acts inflicted on real-life children.

To the best of my knowledge this hentai stuff is cartoon drawings, cartoon drawings you might find offensive in which case you are entirely at liberty not to look at them, but what right do you have to determine whether someone wants to look at cartoon drawings that have involved no criminal activity whatsoever?

Just for the record at what point does it become a criminal act? When the artist first puts ink to paper? When he starts to color it in? How do you determine exactly the “age” of a cartoon figure? Where is the legal break off, if he draws a cartoon figure that he says is 16 is that ok? Or must it be 18? How big must the sexual organs be to determine the age of the cartoon figure? You see how damned absurd this is?

Child pornography is a crime, crimes must be punished. Drawing ridiculous pictures of stupid cartoon figures no matter how “offensive” they may be should not be anyone else’s business, once you start allowing the government to determine how cartoonists draw pictures you have given away the First Amendment.

AFAIK, it's illegal under the US law, I mean this one.

In October 2010, a 33 year old Idaho man, Steven Kutzner, entered into a plea agreement concerning images of child characters from the American animated television show, The Simpsons engaged in sexual acts.[67][68] In January 2011, Kutzner was sentenced to serve 15 months in federal prison. According to court documents, Kutzner had been downloading, receiving and viewing sexually explicit images of actual children for at least eight years.[69]
