I’m not from a culture that calls people “nigger,” or anything else related to their race/ethnicity, but lots of other people are, including a lot of the people who are tearing Paula Deen to shreds. Get them supposedly off-mike and they go on with racial and religious slurs that you’d think went out 100 years ago.
I’m also not a 2-year-old, so I refuse to “n-word.” It’s a pathetic absurdity.

Pretty much sick of her. What do these people expect when they utter such nonsense. Common sense isn’t as common as it should be. So no she’s losing a bunch of endorsements.

I do that....cheese flavored salt if I’m at the movies for my popcorn and good old Pickle Salt for other stuff in my purse.

BTW this happen over 30 years ago in those 30 years the word was not even on her radar nor was that kind of mind set ever apart of her demeanor.

It is just not in my world. I have never been called a racial slur (religious slur) and I’ve never had friends who used those words -— but I have heard several people including a relative use the Yiddish for black to be derogatory toward blacks - “schvartze.” And I said I was offended.
I like self deprecating jokes about your own kind; they are just funny. But jokes about another group, and insulting words, are not ok.
It’s not about growing a spine. It’s about being considerate. Now, I am female so if you were in the military or other places where humor among men got a bit rough, then power to you. Our worlds are different.
