Energy Policy: A billionaire hedge fund manager and Barack Obama donor is pushing the president to stop the pipeline that would compete with one he's invested in. That pipeline could send Canadian oil to China.

Environmental activist Tom Steyer donated as much as he could to get Massachusetts Rep. Ed Markey elected to the Senate in the recent special election to fill the seat vacated by now-Secretary of State John Kerry. He wanted another senator who's opposed to completing the Keystone XL pipeline that he says would be an environmental plague on the planet.

A few days before President Obama said that Keystone XL would be built only if it could be shown to have no net effect on greenhouse gas emissions, Steyer, a major contributor to Obama's campaigns, urged the president to kill the project.

According to Canada Freepress, Obama has already promised to approve the Keystone Pipeline, when Canada passes a carbon tax. This isn’t an ordinary carbon tax that Obama s talking about, this is a carbon tax, levied and paid to an international trade commission, which will redistribute the money to third world countries which have no fossil fuel industry.

His plans are the same for sub-bituminous coal, which Obama refers to as “clean coal”. Obama does not have any concern for the environment or global warming, only for the money created by the fossil fuel industry

Sending the oil OVER the Rockies,
Storing it on the Canadian Pacific Coast,
Loading it on tankers (ALL of which leak),
Shipping it across 7,000 miles of Ocean,
Offloading it at a Chinese Port,
Sending it to a Chinese Refinery,
(which has lower environmental standards than US refineries),
to be burned in high-emission vehicles.

Nobody is looking upward to a sun that puts out a billion times more energy than the earth uses every day! It’s all about that pesky today’s 0.02%-0.03% CO2 that allowed plants to grow millions of years ago, in higher CO2 concentrations, creating the carbon based energy that we use today!

Don’t pretend to know manipulation in this market except to say from what we hear market prices are based on Brent (Europe UK) crude not on US oil prices. While it costs more to get fracked oil than from a-raby US oil is still cheaper but gets complicated and expensive by EPA save the world from GW excuses oil processing .

The Obama Demo-Com regime is quite happy to see high oil prices because it will force rural populations to central city centers who wiill be using high speed trains and light rail transport and buy property owned by the pols .Plus their buddies and contributers in Araby and others kickback to the big collective known as the Democrat party.

Actually, Buffett and BNSF have created a situation which benefits producers in North Dakota and Montana, opening new markets for Bakken/Three Forks crude which have reduced the discounts on produced oil. The other spinoff is the drop in price for Brent Crude, because Eastern refineries have access to Bakken/Three Forks light sweet crude by rail.

Buffett makes money on the shipping, the oil companies make money because they are getting a better price per barrel, and the Eastern refinieries aren't buying as much overseas oil.

Whether that was the intent or not, it works for everyone.

Thanks for the info. According to a friend who works for BN, the original push was to keep Keystone from being completed. It’s nice to see some positive results although still think there is more than enough business for everyone. Down in our part of the country we sure would love to have Keystone completed though.
