We Texans have NOT backed down and this bill WILL pass and be signed into law.

The Texas Congress only meets once every two years. Any legislation that needs to get down, which was not handled during the regular session, can be called into a special session by the Governor. The difference is that Congress can only cover the specific topics the Governor puts on their agenda - period. Each special session is typically 30 days.

Last special session, Governor Perry didn’t add the abortion topic until the session was over 50% complete. So, with the other topics which needed to be handled, they ran out of time to get this bill done.

Since this is the MAIN topic for this session, I have no doubt that this abortion bill will be passed, EASILY.

The legislation should pass since it would regulate abortion clinics and here in PA we passed regulatory legislation easily since Gosnell was based here.

But the 20 week issue, that is making abortions after 20 weeks illegal looks to me like a fallback from old positions for the Republicans and an attempt to create an emotional wedge issue for the 2014 elections to keep people supporting the Republican Party.

Ronald Reagan opposed all abortions with the rape, incest and life of the mother exceptions and signed legislation in California that was considered liberal when it passed in 1967.

A 20 week limit will lead to a federal court fight just like the immigration legislation that passed in Arizona a few years ago and was signed by Governor Jan Brewer.

Brewer now support amnesty anyway after getting re-elected on the back of the emotional immigration legislation.

Is the GOP-E exploiting the abortion issue now to create emotional support for their next elections.

Passing 20 week limit legislation is a retreat from Ronald Reagan’s abortion position.

I have a local GOP legislator who wants abortion legal during the first 12 weeks and he was always labeled Pro-Abortion for that in voter guides.

Guys like him will now get the Pro-Life label attached to them if they vote for such a bill.

I smell the Karl Rove emotional wedge issue to get support riled up for liberal GOP members with these 20 week abortion limit bills.
