U.S., allies were near a deal for peaceful end to Egypt crisis
Washington Post ^ | August 16, 2013 | By Anne Gearan and Colum Lynch

Two weeks before the bloody crackdown in Cairo, the Obama administration, working with European and Persian Gulf allies, believed it was close to a deal to have Islamist supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi disband street encampments in return for a pledge of nonviolence from Egypt’s interim authorities.

The failed proposal represented the most intensive U.S. involvement to try to avert bloodshed, and demonstrates the new limits of U.S. influence over both the military and Islamists backing Morsi. Both sides have harshly criticized Washington, and each has accused President Obama of backing its opponent.

I couldn’t glean from the article what we were supposed to give up for the phony promise to end violence. Money? Four F-16s?

There is no way the islanimals will stop trying to force their pedophile religion on the masses. Most of these muslim inbreeds will need to be put down or they will hide and attack as the cowards they are.

Pure crappola. Nothing more than window dressing to cover up the fact that Zero's foreign policy is not even ranked amateurish.

Let them fight it out.

History shows that most negotiated settlements do little more than leave the two sides staring each other down for years over an open, festering chasm. When there are no clear winners and losers the source of the conflict is unresolved.

Consider all the different countries that have been partioned through negotion or where open opposition with others ended with a negotiated truce. There are too many to list but some notable examples are
Germany, Korea, Iraq, the entire middle east vs. Israel

If this kind of thinking had prevailed in 1776 we would all still be subjects of the British Queen.

uh, whose bloodshed were we trying to avert?

Certainly not that of the Egyptian Christians and secularists being tortured and murdered for the past year (and longer before they became the rulers) by morsi's thugs

Just some piece planted by the Obama media to make his look astute on mid east matters.

The truth probably is something like his excellency does nothing...he has farmed out his programs to his lefty cadre of syncophants to do whatever they want to do except bother him as he is out campaigning 24/7. Trapper reported this week it was not till Thursday morning before his excellency became aware of the situation in Egypt being explosive. In other words, Barry had left the fools back at the White House and over at Foggy Bottom in charge. Just after Hitlery left, kind of just in time, and with the incoming Plutocrat Kerry running the place from his yacht moored in Rhode Island to avoid taxes, this problem arises and all of a sudden we can see that the brotherhood is nothing but a band of terrorists? In fact, was not the Taliban the lawful government in Afghanistan before 9/11 (the first one)? So, how is this “lawful” government any different especially since they are against our interests and peace in the mid east too.

A third grader is smart enough to see the brotherhood was a problem so either Barry is not as smart as one or is in bed with them. I vote for both answers being correct.

Valuable time-saving hint..whenever you see the words "peaceful, solution, Egypt, crisis" in the same headline, you are 100% guaranteed that whatever follows is 100% pure horse s**t, and you can skip it..

Hey, look! Im still relevant!

This may even be true, but it only reveals yet another failure.

Honestly, from the beginning, what foreign policy success has Obama/Hillary/Kerry had? Honestly?

I know of not one success.

U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power spoke in favor Thursday of efforts to pass a Security Council expression of concern about the prospect of deepening violence.

Well that did the trick. No, wait, what?

Seriously, what kind of children are attempting to run the world?
