How about a cost of living increase for the old folks struggling to get by on their SS checks instead? Those people are completely dependent on the government whether they get increases or not. Therefore they are not a priority. And not launching missiles at Syria, though it would seem to be financially sound, does not actually translate to more money for Social Subsistence. That would be a non sequitur.

This my friends is why nothing will ever change. "Conservatives" are all about limiting the size of government with the stipulation their entitlements don't get touched.
