Judge Andrew Napolitano presidential draft effort picks up steam
The Washington Times ^ | 09/03/13 | Jessica Chasmar

An effort to draft former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano for a 2016 presidential run is picking up steam, Sunshine State News first reported.

The Virginia-based Committee to Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano for President announced last week that it had gathered almost 100,000 signatures and 36,000 likes on Facebook urging the libertarian to run as a Republican.

The effort is being led by Larry Hunter, a former Reagan White House staffer who worked with Jack Kemp and helped craft the "Contract With America," State News reported.

"The heads of both parties are busy right now lining up establishment candidates … people who won't 'embarrass' them, who won't go too far off the good-ol'-boy grid when it comes to running the country," the group said in a statement. "And we've seen where we get when we let these old bulls pick our leaders for us. We get inaction, frustration, dysfunction.

We get government causing problems, then expanding still further to 'solve' them, then expanding still further to solve the problems the solutions themselves caused. Judge Napolitano knows better."

Napolitano on a conservative administration certainly sounds interesting.

Not Ted Cruz who is the frontrunner that now needs to have votes chipped away from him by the RINO machine that fears the threat from his star status.

A vote splitting ploy?????

Can’t say I agree with Napolitano on everything, but I can at least say that he is passionate about what he believes in, and I can say he would probably have something to say if we appealed to him, doesn’t sound too bad.

Well, I didn't expect THIS this morning.

Refreshing news that looks good on the surface.

That’s the scary part ... I’m sure the intent is NOT to split votes, but unless Andy gets a BIG following, it will translate into a conservative loss BECAUSE the vote was split.

The petition, from his website.

  Whereas, the United States presently finds itself on a path marked by the destruction of individual liberty, runaway government spending, destructive economic intervention and regulations, debauchment of our money, taxpayer subsidization and government bailouts of failed banks and corporations, and illegal, unjustified wars; and

  Whereas, history has proven that such a path leads only to debt, despotism, and despair; and

  Whereas, both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have worked in tandem as an entrenched political duopoly to put the United States on this path, despite both parties’ claiming fundamental ideological differences; and

  Whereas, both parties have done so because they are controlled by professional politicians and special interest groups that do not hold the best interests of the American people at heart; and

  Whereas, tight control of the American political system by the two major parties makes it nearly impossible for a third-party or independent candidate to compete for national office; and

  Whereas, the only way to transform a system riddled with such corruption and cronyism is to support groups and candidates currently outside the government and neither controlled by nor invested in such special interests; and

  Whereas, the liberty movement represents the last best chance of the American people to combat such a system and to elect persons who respect the rule of law and abide by the limits imposed on the federal government by the U.S. Constitution; and

  Whereas, following the retirement of Representative Ron Paul from Congress, the liberty movement is in need of a strong, principled, and intellectual leader, capable of inspiring and coalescing the various elements within the movement and the country; and

  Whereas, Judge Andrew Napolitano is a man who has consistently, throughout the course of his career, challenged the unabated, unconstitutional expansion of both the scope and influence of the federal government by politicians and special interest groups on both sides of the aisle, and;

  Whereas, such actions have proven Judge Napolitano to be a man with both the intelligence and strength of character required to lead the liberty movement and the country;

  Now Therefore we the undersigned, call on Judge Andrew Napolitano to offer himself as a Republican candidate for President of the United States in the presidential election of 2016.

Could've left out that bit about RP, but otherwise hitting the right notes.

And he's certainly not shied away from YouTube

Thanks for the post, 99 !

I love my Senator Cruz—but maybe he needs another term or two in the Senate. I’d vote for the judge, though—I think he would be a great candidate as well as a good conservative president. Or, maybe put him in the vp slot.....

(ps—I’d would certainly be proud to vote for Sen. Cruz if he gets the nomination....)

It’s a good feeling to know that the pubbies have 2 good men to choose from this time!

I like him but he was a justice in NJ and that alone would keep me from ever putting him in any office. Do I trust him? Absolutely not.

What part of “Now that would be interesting” is indicative of both feet. It’s more like a toe dip. Get a grip.
