Stem cells: Living adult tissue transformed back into embryo state
BBC News ^ | 11 September 2013 | James Gallagher

The living tissue inside an animal has been regressed back into an embryonic state for the first time, Spanish researchers say.

They believe it could lead to new ways of repairing the body, for example after a heart attack.

However, the study published in the journal Nature, showed the technique led to tumours forming in mice.

Stem cell experts said it was a "cool" study, but would need to be much more controlled before leading to therapies.

This is impossible. Everyone including the state of California knows it is necessary to obtain embryonic stem cells from aborted human embryos.

Fantastique! Much still needs to be worked out. The tissue becomes likely to provide an environment that would support tumors. Of course I don’t really understand all this involves or implies, I’m untrained. but I can see the potential lives that could be saved or improved in the future.

This will take a many years and a lot of money, but many far reaching discoveries are achieved just a little at a time. Imagine all we had to learn in order to use blood transfusions, or vaccinations. It takes imagination and courage to be a great doctor or scientist. A Medical tech. does exacting but purely perfunctory work, nothing as deep and uncertain as this. Eventually there will be literal truth in the statement “Physician, Heal Thyself.”

I am always skeptical when a second tier research country like Spain claims a highly significant medical advance.

I hope it’s true, but first I want to see verification from the USA, Canada, Australia, northern Europe, or Japan.

Spain actually has a lot of excellent researchers and research facilities.

I don’t doubt it.

But there is a long and troubling record of second tier research countries making exaggerated and unverifiable medical claims.

South Korea, Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil come immediately to mind.

In fact, I’ll speculate that Argentina and Brazil have larger medical research budgets than Spain.

I’ll check and get back to you.
