It could be worse, it could be raccoons.

Most of the world’s “Executive Mansions” are infested with vermin.

raccoons, send me in with a shot gun, hate those coons, vicious, nasty predators that will eat your farm fowl if your not careful. The only good coon is a dead one...

Possums = Possums, probably the common Aussie brushtail kind.

First off, coons had NOTHING to do with this post. Secondly I had one as a pet as a very young child (1st grade or so); they are cool critters if you don’t piss them off; as my dad liked to do.

Actually there was a companion story, the White House is filled with roaches. Oddly enough Carrol Browner, Clinton’s head of the EPA banned Diazanon; the best roach spray ever invented. Once I got rid of the pack-rat tenants that came with the duplex it took me 3 months and they were gone, gone gone....

BTW, as far as coons go; they are not good table fare. They taste really good but just don’t digest well; kind of like bear.

I can appreciate you having one as a pet...One broke into my chicken coop and killed 8 and stacked them up in the attic of the coop to come back later and dine again...they got into my old ice house I turned into a turkey pen with a mom and her checks, that bas;;rd ate a hole in the roof and left her but killed and ate all her baby turkeys. I had a pet bantam the rooster wouldn't let into the coop, so he slept on the roof of the coop, friggen coon caught him one night, left the head on the roof and the body on the front lawn. Got into my garden and went down a row a corn and ate 1/2 of the corn....they can use their hands to manipulate the corn shuck down about 1/2 way, eat the corn and leave it on the stalk..

They kill by decapitation that's how you know its coon business. Found the head of a rabbit on the garage bay apron and its body over by the pond....they kill just for fun, I would run off the road to nail one with my car...and those are just the few things coons did to my farm fowl...different strokes for different folks. I would catch them in the live trap and throw the trap and all into the pond and drown the suckers....later in the day I'd pull the live trap out of the pond and chuck those suckers into the garbage......But I am glad you had one as a pet, I must have missed one....:O)

Speaking of possum, if you skin them and sent the hide off to be tanned (it would take about 50 possum) they would make a pretty jacket...they do have a nice pelt...But I pretty much left them alone, they are mostly carrion eaters, but they will do eggs if they can get them...

I knew a gal that had a pet skunk, depewed it and it was a great pet and quite clean....pretty too...But since I sold the farm, I only had to dispense one on my deck that came at night and tried to get to a robins nest with baby's that built her nest under the deck..(deck was on the second floor) Now I had a neighbor that raised a few head of cattle and he was death to any ground hog he caught..It is tough living in the country...

I do have to disagree with you on your point this thread is not about coons....someone else brought it up first, I was just saying what I thought of those rabies caring coons.

throw the trap and all into the pond and drown the suckers....

A few years ago there seemed to be a great number of coons around my woods, breaking into deer feeders and robbing my duck nests by my pond. I borrowed a wire cage trap and baited it and left it on the dam overnight. Next morning when I checked, the trap had disappeared. Later after the sun got high, I could see the trap in the water with a dead coon in it. I figured that the coon had gotten caught in the trap, then later a coyote or fox had come along, attacked the trap trying to get to the coon, and accidentally pushed it over to where it tumbled into the water. Sort of an unintentional end for the coon.

Yes. Most Australian native mammals are marsupials and we have a large group of different tree dwelling marsupials that fill a similar ecological niche in Australia, to the one squirrels occupy in North America. Because the only marsupials early Australian naturalists were aware of from their education were the American opossums, that name was applied to them here - and it's since been shortened down to just plain possum.

There's a lot of different species and one of the habits of those in suburban areas is to move in and occupy the roofspaces of houses - including in this case, the Prime Minister's official residence.
